The turnout of the ‘Thank You Tour’ not surprising- Dennis Aboagye

MCE of Akuapem North, Dennis Aboagye

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Akuapem North, Dennis Aboagye, has intimated that the turnout of events at the ‘Thank You Tour’ is not surprising.

He stated that for those in the political arena, it is clear that John Mahama does not want threats to his future political aspirations.

“I think for those of us in the industry, it is not surprising the way the ‘Thank You tour’ has turned out. Anything the NPP gets right is against the future aspirations of His excellency John Dramani Mahama. So, whatever he also needs to do, to look good in the eyes of the Ghanaian populace, that’s his job”.

He also stated that the former President can raise any issue across the sectors as much as he wishes. However, he said government is going to ensure that whatever he comes up with,;they will challenge him with the facts.

“He’s raised too many issues. The issue with the Election 2020, that for me is a non-starter without discretion. Every stakeholder involved in the 2020 election apart from the NDC, has hailed the conduct of the 2020 elections and its outcome”.

Elections achieved its outcome

Mr. Aboagye further indicated that the elections achieved its two outcomes, that is, being free and fair. In that regard, he said there was nothing for the former President to have issues with.

He also noted that whatever issues that the NDC had concerning the 2020 elections has already been solved in court and that there is no need bringing them again.

“Every other thing being said is just an opinion. We are being bound by rules otherwise we are going to have a very chaotic environment by which people will share their opinion and want it to be accepted. I might have an opinion but the law says go to court.

“Once I go to court everything will be resolved there. If they rule against me, that will become the accepted principle. But I cannot go outside the court ruling and say the court has ruled but I disagree.”

However, Mr. Aboagye averred that the former President has the right to share his opinion but moving around with it,;he says becomes problematic. This, he said, gives the impression that the court has done something wrong.

Also contributing to the discussion,;Owula Mangortey, a traditionalist, said that the former President on his tour should be more focused on important issues. He asked the President not to do things just to get him publicity.

“Let’s focus because there are far more important things going on”.

The Former President, John Dramani Mahama,;has said that even though the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is not happy with the conduct of the 2020 elections, it still maintained a level head because the peace of Ghana is more important than anyone in the country.

As part of his ‘Thank You Tour’,;he stated that the NDC won the Presidential elections in all the 11 constituencies in the region and increased the number of their Parliamentary seats which contributed to his national figures.

However, the Former President said if not for “the arm twisting by the military” in some constituencies against the NDC, they would have had a clear majority in Parliament.

He also touched on issues of corruption, governance and the infrastructural problems in the country.
