Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addresses the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Friday, Sept. 27, 2024.

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addresses the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Friday, Sept. 27, 2024.

Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu has addressed world leaders at 79th UN General Assembly.

Netanyahu stated at the UN General Assembly that he did not intend to come this year, but after he heard the “lies and slander” levelled at Israel he decided to come and “set the record straight.”

“Israel seeks peace, Israel yearns for peace,” he said, adding that Israel must defend itself against “savage murderers.”

“Our enemies seek not only to destroy us, they seek to destroy our common civilisation and return all of us to a dark age of tyranny and terror,” he claimed.

In his speech at the UN General Assembly, Netanyahu insisted that Israel doesn’t want to see a single innocent person die.

“No army has done what Israel is doing to minimise civilian casualties: we drop fliers, we send text messages, we make phone calls by the millions to ensure that Palestinian civilians get out of harm’s way.”

Netanyahu spoke of the “curse” of October 7 and the atrocities committed that day.

He asserted that his country will not rest until the remaining hostages are brought home.

Also, Netanyahu said at the UN that “Hamas has got to go” and would have no role in the reconstruction of Gaza as he pledged to fight until “total victory.”

“If Hamas stays in power, it will regroup … and attack Israel again and again and again… So Hamas has got to go,” he said.

Netanyahu also told world leaders that his nation will “continue degrading Hezbollah” until it achieves its goals along the Lebanon border, further dimming hopes for an internationally backed cease-fire to halt the spiral into an all-out regional war.

“Israel has every right to remove this threat and return our citizens to their home safely. And that’s exactly what we’re doing … we’ll continue degrading Hezbollah until all our objectives are met.

“Just imagine if terrorists turned El Paso and San Diego into ghost towns … How long would the American government tolerate that? Yet Israel has been tolerating this intolerable situation for almost a year. Well, I’ve come here today to say: Enough is enough.”

Benjamin Netanyahu

Additionally, the Israeli leader claimed that Iran will endanger every country in the Middle East and many beyond.

“For too long the world has appeased Iran. That appeasement must end and that appeasement must end now,” he said.

The Israeli leader added that everything must be done to ensure Iran doesn’t get nuclear weapons.

“There is no place in Iran that the long arm of Israel cannot reach, and that’s true of the entire Middle East,” Netanyahu said at the UN General Assembly.

“I have a message for the tyrants of Tehran. If you strike us, we will strike you. There is no place in Iran that the long arm of Israel cannot reach, and that’s true of the entire Middle East.”

Benjamin Netanyahu

“We are winning,” he declared, showing a map he termed “the curse” of Iran’s influence and another which he described as a blessing.

Netanyahu Calls For Peace Agreement With Saudi Arabia

Moreover, Netanyahu stressed that the need to achieve a peace agreement with Saudi Arabia, citing the experience of the Abraham Accords.

“I say to you, what blessing such a peace with Saudi Arabia would bring – it would be a boon to the security and economy of our two countries, it would boost trade and tourism across the region, it would help transform the Middle East into a global juggernaut.”

Benjamin Netanyahu

“Such a peace, I’m sure, would be a true pivot of history: it would usher in a historic reconciliation between the Arab world and Israel, between Islam and Judaism, between Mecca and Jerusalem,” the Israeli leader said.

“One of the best ways to foil Iran’s nefarious designs is to achieve the peace,” he added.
