The National Democratic Congress (NDC) stated in its ‘People’s Manifesto’ that,

“it will lead the country to develop a programme of Action for COVID-19, called National Strategy to Combat COVID-19 (NSCC).”

According to the Manifesto, the NDC assured Ghanaians that, when given the power to rule, it will lead the country to develop the NSCC and also will consult civil societies in an attempt to carve out the programme of action.

“The NDC will lead the country to develop a National Strategy to Combat COVID-19 (NSCC). Local Governments, doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, scientists, traditional healers, traditional authorities, community leaders, youth leaders, leaders of women groups, religious leaders among others from across the country will be consulted.”

The Manifesto stated that, the NSCC will consider a wide array of areas including enrollment of healthcare and public health graduates who are unemployed, yet meet minimum requirements into a contact tracing force and supply the latest IT techniques to enhance the speed of information flow and timelines of case management via quarantine or isolation.

“The National Strategy to combat COVID-19 will consider, enlistment of unposted or unemployed healthcare and public health graduates who meet minimum requirements into a contact tracing force of ten of thousand across the nation and supply the latest IT techniques to scheduling and task management to enhance the speed of information flow and timeliness of case management via quarantine or isolation.”

According to the ‘People’s Manifesto’, there has been an inert revelation in Ghana’s health system and the country’s preparedness when it comes to emergencies.

It stated that, there has been some disparities in data as well as an impoverishment in health planning and financing. This has begot the inability of health specialists to test many affected people.

“The Coronavirus pandemic has exposed deep cracks in Ghana’s health system and emergency preparedness. Health planning and financing has been poor and discrepancies in data, including the inability to test many affected people have hindered the fight against COVID-19.”

As part of the NDC’s focus, it has pledged to make opulent the Navrongo Health Research Centre and the Kintampo Health Research Centre, so as to rub shoulders with Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) and Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research (KCCR).

“The National Strategy will also strengthen testing capacity by, upscaling the Navrongo Health Research Centre and the Kintampo Health Research Centre to the standard and status of Ngouchi and KCCR.”

The NDC government vowed support for frontline workers if elected by 7th December, 2020.
