Zeepay, a fast-growing fintech focusing on digital rails to connect digital assets and its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Andrew Takyi-Appiah have been adjudged ‘Best Fintech of the Year’ and ‘Best Fintech CEO of the Year’ at the recent 2020 Ghana Information Technology and Telecoms Awards (GITTA).

This award reinforces the company’s position as a leading player in the financial digital space and portrays the outstanding work done by the fintech company – which started as a conduit for major money transfer giants but has transformed into a comprehensive financial technology company that connects mobile money wallets, cards, ATMs, Bank Accounts and Digital tokens to International Money Transfer Operators, Payments, Subscriptions, International Airtime and Refugee payment, and offers insurance for beneficiaries of money transfers in an effort to promote and improve financial inclusion.

Mr. Andrew Takyi-Appiah, after receiving the award in the company of some of his team members praised the tenacity and hard work of his team for helping transform Zeepay into a top notch fintech industry within five years of operation.

“When we started, the plan was to become the biggest fintech on the continent, deepening financial inclusion with several products and services – but we didn’t see it happening so soon. This goes to show that with the right team and dedication, anything can be achieved”.

Earlier this year, Zeepay became the first fintech to be granted a licence to operate a full Electronic Money Issuer service (Mobile Money) by the Bank of Ghana. Currently, this service permits subscribers of Zeepay to operate a wide range of mobile money services such as Cash In-Cash Out, Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Transfers, Payments and Digital Termination of Remittances (DTR).

Also, the company has instituted a short code which makes access to its services easier and allows subscribers to register remotely at their convenience without having to visit a branch in person. Additionally, sending and receiving money, paying bills, buying airtime and undertaking any financial transaction that other mobile money platforms offer is equally provided by Zeepay. It has partnered over 100,000 mobile money agents across the country to help the platform’s users cash out money or load their wallets with cash.

Partnerships spread accross several institutions in insurance, pensions and banking thus, Zeepay’s subscribers can undertake seamless remittances, purchase microinsurance, auto-insurance, mortgage remits, airtime top-ups, bill payments and pension collections.

The GITTA award recognizes not only the products and diverse innovations which keep the ICT & Telecom sector thriving, but has become a “symbol of excellence that marks leadership, quality and innovation” acknowledging companies and people who make the industry great.

GITTA is considered the most celebrated ICT awards, attracting the crème de la crème and top decisionmakers, rewarding a “full decade of ICT disruption in all industries; from banking, health, insurance, Fintech, cloud, cyber security and digitization”.
