Parliament Misconduct: Speaker To Meet Leaders To Decide Probing

Chief Whip for the National Democratic Congress(NDC), Honorable Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka

The Chief Whip for the National Democratic Congress(NDC), Honorable Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, has disclosed that, the Speaker of Parliament, Honorable Alban Bagbin will meet with the various party leaders in parliament to discuss the course of action to be levelled against offenders of the law in Parliament.

Speaking during an interview, he disclosed that, an agreement on probing had not been reached yet and as a result the need for the meeting.

His comment comes on the back of citizens and stakeholders calling for the Members of Parliament to be held accountable for their actions which took place in Parliament on January 7.

Touching on the happenings in Parliament, he iterated the fact that, the act was shameful and an agreement would have resolved all the situations that ensued.

He also revealed that, the former Members of the majority were not ready to engage in order to reach an agreement and also to inform them as to how things were going to take place in parliament.

“Clearly it was supposed to be the responsibility of the majority leader to lead those discussions and he failed. When he failed to do the engagement, he was failing to parliament and that’s exactly what he did.”

He lamented on the fact that, the members of the NPP met and discussed that, ballot papers were to be shown as proof after voting, adding that he had a big problem with that decision because it was against the constitution.

Touching on their win, with regards to election of the Speaker of Parliament from their side, he revealed that, the NDC was not going to be abusive of such an opportunity as purported by citizens and promised a professional behaviour by the NDC.
