Ace American veteran actor, Eddie Murphy will be inducted into the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Awards Hall of Fame this month.

The announcement was made today by the NAACP noting that, Murphy will be inducted during the March 27 awards ceremony, which will air on the American commercial broadcast television, CBS.

The actor-comedian will be presented with the award by his longtime friend and ‘Coming 2 America’ co-star Arsenio Hall. According to NAACP, the induction is bestowed on an individual who is viewed as a pioneer in their respective field and whose influence shaped the “profession for generations to come”.

It is worth mentioning that previous inductees include Oprah Winfrey, Stevie Wonder, Spike Lee, Ray Charles, and Sidney Poitier. The last honorees to be inducted in 2014 were Cheryl Boone Isaacs and Paris Barclay.

The CEO and President of NAACP, Derick Johnson lauding Eddie Murphy said that: “To this day, Eddie Murphy’s work continues to bring joy and laughter to individuals around the world, and he is an amazing example of Black excellence, creativity, and artistry”.

The organization announced that singers Maxwell and Jazmine Sullivan are set to perform during the live telecast. The NAACP Image Awards honoring entertainers and writers of color will also simulcast on BET, MTV, among others.

EDDIE’S ENTERTAINMENT CAREER

Eddie Murphy began his career as a stand-up comic while a teenager and eventually joined the cast of ‘Saturday Night Live’. He starred in the box office hit ’48 Hours’ and made his mark in a slew of films such as ‘Beverly Hills Cop’, ‘Coming to America’, ‘The Nutty Professor’, ‘Dr. Dolittle’ and ‘Dolemite Is My Name’. His latest film ‘Coming 2 America’ was released on Amazon last week. The original comedy, was a hit at the box office, the second-highest-grossing movie of the year, though Eddie Murphy didn’t realize how much it resonated with audiences until 25 years later. He has several notable awards including the Grammy award for ‘Best Comedy Album’ in 1984, Golden Globe Award for ‘Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture’ in 2007, NAACP Image Award for ‘Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture’ in 1988.

However, Eddie Murphy isn’t only an actor as he doubles as a singer too. He frequently provided background vocals to songs released by the ‘Bus Boys’. They released songs such as ‘The Boys Are Back in Town’ which was featured in the 1982 film ’48 Hrs’ and Murphy’s comedy special ‘Eddie Murphy Delirious’.
