Energy Ministry partners with Hauwei to build ICT skill capacity of staff

The Energy Ministry has today announced that a partnership with technology giant Hauwei Ghana has been reached to train its staff on Information Communication Technology (ICT).

In a social media post by the Ministry which announced the partnership,; it said the training which will come off as a workshop will help enlighten its staff as well.

“The Ministry announces with pleasure,;a partnership with Huawei Ghana which is aimed at building the ICT skill capacity of the staff of the Energy Ministry as well as enlighten them on current industry trends.

“This workshop also aims at equipping participants with basics of Microsoft Word,;Excel and Power Point as well as serve as a guide for participants to appreciate the various practices in the Energy sector.”

The Ministry further noted that,;the participants would be inclined with knowledge both in technology and the various innovations driving the energy sector after the workshop is done. This, it explains, will contribute to the effective management of the energy sector in the country.

“At the end of the training,;participants would be able to identify and engage with new and enhanced features of all applications in Office 2016 and 2019,;understand the key innovations and technologies driving the petroleum and power sectors in developed countries like China and how it can be applied in Ghana,;as well as analyze and discuss key policy directions and strategies for effective management of the energy sector.”

The Ministry therefore expressed optimism in the partnership to yield good results. ICT

“The Honorable Minister and general management of the Ministry are optimistic that with this workshop,;staff would be able to adjust to the emerging trends of technology in the industry as well as work efficiently.”

Science and technology has in the past year proven to be a necessity in every sector and industry globally. This, we can say, can be mainly attributed to the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Energy Ministry,;to also meet up with this trend,;has come up with this partnership to meet up with the global demands and to also up its game in the sector.

Minister encourages study of science and technology

Prior to this, the Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh,;has encouraged the study of science and technology in schools. He made this known at the commissioning of a 500-bed girls’ dormitory at Nsein SHS in the Western Region,;a project started during his tenure at the Education Ministry, funded by Tullow Ghana.

In his remarks, he encouraged Tullow to adopt Nsein SHS and transform it into a model school for Science,;Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). He also asked them to consider investing more in the TVET sector particularly,;the oil and gas sector as part of this country’s local content agenda.

He said Ghana has a youthful and energetic population that can and should be tapped into to develop crucial technological and technical skills to support the budding oil and gas industry.
