VGMA Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year, Epixode has stated that he would have still won the prestigious award even if the two main Dancehall acts in Ghana, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy were nominated in that category.

Ghanaian dancehall artist, Epixode

Ghanaian reggae artist, Epixode in his bid to help thrive the Ghanaian music industry has engaged some upcoming artists in a seminar.

The seminar, which is the first of its kind, saw about 50 upcoming musicians from around the country gather at the Flip Bar in Accra to discuss pertinent issues affecting their growth in the music industry.

Speaking at the seminar, Epixode who initiated a challenge for his ‘Odeshi’ hit single for these upcoming Dancehall/Reggae artistes noted that he was thrilled with the level of talents on display and urged them to work hard to achieve their ultimate goals of becoming top musicians.

“Everyone here has got potential looking at what I listened to with regards to the ‘Odeshi’ challenge. But then how do you turn this potential into becoming an iconic figure in the Dancehall/Reggae space?

“This is why you have to focus on giving out good rhythms that can last the next decade and can keep you relevant. You should take this opportunity to network with each other and support each other’s music because that is the only way you can blow out there.

“I know these are tough times in your career but it should make you stronger and hopefully when you get a hit song you can carry it on from there. But please don’t lose focus and believe in your capabilities”.

Epixode announced that, in his bid to support these upcoming artists, he would work with each of them on an album project as he seeks to give them the opportunity to display their lyrical vibes.

Mr. Robert Klay, Public Relations Officer of Charterhouse, organizers of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, advised upcoming artists to develop ways of building a unique identity and originality.

He urged upcoming musicians to see music as a business and not just for entertainment purposes as it could help them earn a living considering the high rates of unemployment in the country.

He also urged them to keenly follow structures of the music industry including Musicians Associations of Ghana (MUSIGA), Ghana Music Rights Organizations (GHAMRO), among others so as to keep abreast with happenings in the industry and take advantage of opportunities available.

In a recent interview, Epixode opined that Ghanaian Reggae and Dancehall will soon take over the world considering its uniqueness. But it will need rebranding for it to be appreciated all over the world.

According to Epixode, the Reggae and Dancehall genre can be rebranded by adding a “local vibe” to make it completely unique to sell it worldwide.

Epixode also revealed that he wants to use his success to help other upcoming musicians thrive in the Ghanaian Reggae/ Dancehall space.

“Reggae and Dancehall would forever top the world of music and I believe Reggae from Ghana would soon take over. Reggae has always been in our blood as some Highlife artists some time back did branch into that genre. But we can rebrand it and add our local influence to make it special and I believe the world would appreciate it.

“The next move for me is to try and help those artists who need a helping hand in the Reggae and Dancehall space and make the genre very vibrant”.

Epixode

Well, that is not the only aid Epixode wants to give to society. He mentioned that he’s working on a project to help “struggling Ghetto youths” to get on their feet through a foundation he’s establishing. He urged corporate Ghana to help him achieve this dream of helping people especially those living in the coastal areas.
