Veteran highlife musician, Akosua Agyapong has vowed to contest Diana Hopeson for the Ghana Music Rights Organization’s (GHAMRO) Chairperson slot.

According to the ‘Eka bi nie’ hitmaker, Akosua Agyapong, Diana Hopeson has been incompetent since her reign as GHAMRO’s Second Vice Chairperson and due to this she strongly contends Diana being given the nod to serve as the main chairman.

Questioning Diana’s competence when she served as a board member of MUSIGA some years ago, Akosua Agyapong noted that Diana hasn’t proven herself worthy to be elected as GHAMRO chair.

According to the ‘Eka bi nie’ hitmaker, Diana Hopeson who served a four-year tenure as MUSIGA President from 2007 to 2011 did not cater for the welfare of musicians when she served as president of MUSIGA.

To prove her extent of seriousness, Akosua Agyapong intends to compete for the same slot as Chair of GHAMRO just to prove her point that “Diana Hopeson is not fit for the job”.

“We have those that GHAMRO belongs to them. They don’t want to move out. You, Diana Hopeson, you were with MUSIGA, you were MUSIGA President, what did you do for us? Now you go to GHAMRO as second vice and you want to stand as chairperson for GHAMRO? I am saying it here today I’m standing in for the GHAMRO chairperson because I won’t allow Diana to go for the position so she brings in her people. It won’t happen. Even MUSIGA nothing happened”.

Akosua has over the years been critical of music right organizations for supposedly taking advantage of musicians. She thinks musicians are not being paid what they are due.

“Where does the money of musicians who are not registered under GHAMRO go to?”

Well, Akosua Agyapong, who has constantly trumpeted the rot at the royalty collection and distribution company, has always laid forth her intentions to run GHAMRO because she realized that “something is amiss somewhere”.

Also, this is not the first time Akosua Agyapong has vented out her frustrations over “mismanagement” by the executives of MUSIGA and GHAMRO.

It can be recalled that in an interview last year, Akosua Agyapong was of the view that, Diana was “still not doing anything for musicians”.

The ‘Frema’ singer said: “There is a woman who has disappointed me, Diana Hopeson. Diana has really disappointed me because she is a woman. To start with, she went to run the Musicians’ union as President and we didn’t see what you did. We didn’t see what Diana did for musicians”.

Akosua Agypaong also described fellow highlife artiste, Rex Omar as the “worst-ever GHAMRO Board Chairman,” adding that contrary to thoughts that things will be better under his leadership, things have been worse.

“When Carlos was in charge, you [Rex Omar] were on several media platforms criticizing, so we thought that given the chance, you will do better. Rather, the situation is gone from bad to worse. As for Rex, I will say it again and again that among all of them, Rex is the worst GHAMRO chairman ever”.
