Ghanaian Dancehall artist, Stonebwoy has fired back at the Acting President of the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO), Rex Omar for attacking him over his royalties comment.
Stonebwoy, a few of days ago, revealed to Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Papa Owusu Ankoma that the only amount of money he has received from GHAMRO as an artist in his entire music career is just 2000 Ghana Cedis.
Moreover, Rex Omar who was clearly not happy with Stonebwoy’s disclosure slammed the ‘Can’t Cool’ hitmaker over the comment which suggested that the agency is not up to the task to work in the interest of artists in the country.
He stated that Stonebwoy is “ignorant” about the operations of the organization since he only joined the agency about two years ago.
“The fact that a singer has a big name as ‘Stonebwoy’ doesn’t mean he will receive a huge sum of money since GHAMRO doesn’t deal with artists’ stage names but rather, their original names”.
Rex Omar
Stonebwoy, reacting to the statement by Rex Omar, noted that Rex and the organization should stop attacking and rather deal with the issue.
Stonebwoy also quizzed whether people have to know the real names of artists before GHAMRO will be able to work well for musicians in the country.
“Rex Omar And @Ghamro_official please put away the defensive and attack mechanism against artists stop throwing dust into the eyes of the people. We have had meetings to no avail. This royalty issue has been [there] since you were a young artist. Are you happy about the state of affairs?”
“How many people are supposed to know an artist by their real names for the royalty system to work? Tell me how many people know DADDY LUMBA’s Real Name”.
Stonebwoy
Several people upon sighting the tweets from Stonebwoy side with him. According to them, GHAMRO needs to do better than it currently is.
Meanwhile, the CEO of GHAMRO, Abraham Adjetey reacting to Stonebwoy’s comment on the payment, said the ‘Putuu’ hitmaker has not updated his records at the royalties collection agency.
“We sent Stonebwoy a thousand, and another thousand, that is why he spoke about ¢2,000. Now he is to follow up and update his records. If you have money for Stonebwoy today, if I do not have his bank account details, where do I send the money to? If there is money for Stonebwoy, the money will be here in GHAMRO’s accounts”.
Abraham Adjetey
CEO, Abraham Adjetey, further disclosed that his team recently had a meeting with Stonebwoy and his crew and advised him to update his records, but all efforts to get him to do the needful have proven futile.
“Recently we had a meeting with him together, and he indicated to us that he will send somebody. In fact, we took some pictures outside. But to date, nobody has come back. We have done some follow-ups, that is not to say because he has not done anything, but it is important for him to do his part so we can also send whatever money we have for him”.
Abraham Adjetey
That notwithstanding, Abraham Adjetey admitted that there are challenges the agency is facing but he is of the strong conviction that GHAMRO will overcome all the hurdles impeding its work with all hands-on deck.
“We must admit GHAMRO has not done everything right. Our communication has not been very good, our relationship with members have not been one hundred percent. So, we are sorry we have not been up 100%”.
Abraham Adjetey
Meanwhile, GHAMRIO is expected to announce major policies this week. Abraham Adjetey said, “that will bring a paradigm shift and change all musicians, composers, and content creators are yearning for”.
