Veteran Ghanaian actor, King Aboagye Brenya has been reported dead. According to his family, he died on Thursday, September 30, 2021, at the Regional Hospital at Abrepo in Kumasi after he was rushed to the facility for treatment.

The 82-year-old was incapacitated for the past six years, and as such has been out of the Ghanaian movie scene. He left behind nine children and a wife.

During his youthful years, King Aboagye Brenya combined acting with working at the Kumasi Cultural Centre. He played several roles in both Ghanaian and Nigerian movies.

King Aboagye Brenya was the owner of Ohenenana Guest House at Bohyen, and also owned the Kumasiman Preparatory School at Bohyen.

Although he was quite weak and was unable to work during his last days, his family says he survived on the revenue they were generating from his guest house and the school.

Following the news of his passing, some actors and producers visited his home at Bohyen to commiserate with the family.

Speaking in an interview after visiting the family house of the late actor, the President of the Film Producers Association of Ghana, James Aboagye, described King Aboagye Brenya as a pioneer in the film industry.

  • “King Aboagye Brenya affectionately called Nana or King was one of the pioneers in the film industry when it comes to the Kumawood fraternity. He was among those who accepted the challenge to battle their colleagues in Accra for roles, despite the latter’s vast experience in the industry. He progressed very well and starred in popular and iconic movies like Kumasi Yonkoo, Asem, Odasanii. Nigerian film producers noticed his acting skill and invited him to Nigeria for movies through Mr. Samuel Nyamekye of Miracle Films. He fell sick about six years ago, and he did not fully recover and has been on the sickbed until late afternoon when he was rushed to the hospital”.

Some personalities in the movie industry, including Kwadwo Nkansah ‘Lilwin’, have expressed their condolence and well wishes to the bereaved family of King Aboagye Brenya.

Taking to Instagram with emojis that depict pain and sorrow, the popular Ghanaian actor stated “Ooo papa. Rest in peace and God be with you.”

Several netizens also followed suit with their condolences as they prayed the soul of the departed to “Rest in peace”.

Sadly, King Aboagye Brenya joins many great men in the entertainment industry who in the past week have fallen and joined their ancestors.

It can be recalled that on September 17, veteran actor Kofi Laing popularly known in showbiz circles as ‘Kohwe’ was reported dead. His death was a huge blow to many who were fans of his favorite ‘District Colonial Court’ Akan drama.

Briefly, after his sudden demise, the country on September 28, was struck dumb with the death of Highlife legend, Nana Kwame Ampadu.

The 76-year-old, sources say, died at the Legon hospital after he fell sick overnight. He was rushed to the emergency ward on Tuesday morning and died shortly after.

Just two days after, the nation is now mourning another fallen hero.
