Agricultural Development Bank has thrown a party for the nominated national best farmers ahead of the National Farmers’ Day ceremony to be held this coming Friday, 3rd December 2021.

The event was termed a “cocktail party”, which was hosted in Central Region, where the National farmers day celebration would be held. The party is organized for nominated farmers who have demonstrated exceptional farming abilities, and it is intended to serve as a token of appreciation for such dedicated farmers.

Speaking on behalf of the Managing Director, the General Manager for Agribusiness at ADB, Kwame Asiedu Attrams lavished praises on the nominated farmers and thanked them for their input and being those that work hard to feed Ghana’s citizens.

Apart from being the main sponsor of the National Farmers Day event and awarding a prize of $100,000 to the winner, the General Manager explained that the program was also planned to be a social event where farmers could engage with one another and maybe forge long-term relationships.

Mr. Attrams emphasized that the ADB is fully dedicated to the interests of farmers and the country’s whole agricultural sector.

“The commitment of the bank to be awarding the cedi equivalent of US$100,000 to the Ultimate Winner as well as the sponsorship of this welcome cocktail and the National Farmers Forum is a further testament of the Bank’s commitment to the agricultural sector.”

The Central Regional Minister, Justina Marigold Assan, who was present at the event, welcomed and congratulated the farmers for their achievements in the agricultural field.

The minister also lauded the Agricultural Development Bank for its unwavering support for the farming industry, urging it to continue. She maintained that the agricultural sector is the backbone of Ghana’s economy and that greater attention should be paid to it.

Dr. Owusu Afriye, the Minister of Food and Agriculture, who was also present congratulated the farmers for their contributions to the industry.

National Farmers Day, A statutory Holiday

Ghana’s National Farmers Day is a public holiday marked on the first Friday in December.

The Farmer’s Day celebration is held on the first Friday in November during election years, while the first Friday in December still remains a Statutory Public Holiday.

The award recipients meet politicians and experts on technical breakthroughs in the agriculture sector at a National Farmers Forum, where they can also express their opinions.

The theme for this year’s edition of the farmers day celebrations is “Planting for Food and Jobs – Consolidating Food Systems in Ghana”.

The president of the republic, H. E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, will be the special guest of honor for the event, along with a slew of other chiefs to grace the occasion.
