Youth organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira Constituency in the Central Region, Aliu Sumaila, has appealed to President Akufo-Addo and the NPP National Executive to call the CEO of Exim Bank, Lawrence Agyensam, to order.

He revealed that the Exim Bank CEO, is undercutting the work of the MP, Bright Wereko Brobbey. Following the events of the polling station elections and the chaos that unfolded in the Constituency, the youth reckon that it could be detrimental to the party and the seat in the 2024 elcections.

Mr Sumaila noted that the youth in the constituency have witnessed some individuals “insulting and attacking” the MP on social and traditional media as well as inciting people to boycott the activities and programmes organized by the MP and the Constituency leadership.

“We are respectfully calling on the President of the Republic, the Vice President and the entire leadership of the NPP to call Mr Lawrence Agyensam, the CEO of Exim Bank to order because he is the paramount beneficiary of the power we have now. Mr. Agyensam has not been an MP before, but he’s been a parliamentary candidate before and we all saw what happened”.

The Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira Constituency youth organizer for the NPP underscored that the constituency has been in a state of confusion following the polling station elections that took place there. Following the elections, he noted that two factions have emerged; one insisting elections were duly conducted and the other faction sticking to the view that no polling station elections have taken place.

That notwithstanding, spokesperson of the Exim Bank CEO and Assistant Secretary of the party in the Constituency, Nana Abban, expressed that the allegations levelled against the Exim Bank CEO are untrue.

Polling station executive elections in Twifo Hemang

In March this year, a Cape Coast Circuit Court ordered for fresh polling station executive elections to be held in the Twifo-Hemang Lower Denkyira Constituency. Following this, it annulled the first election held in about thirty polling stations out of the 83 polling stations in the constituency.

Commenting on the issue, Nana Kwaku Abban, the Deputy Constituency Secretary for the NPP at Hemang Lower Denkyira, revealed that due process must be followed.

“The earlier election has been annulled, and an appropriate timetable must be prepared for all the 83 polling stations and must be agreed as a guide for the re-run”.

The NPP members in the constituency protested what they described as fraudulent polling station elections. They contended that the acclamations for the election were done without their knowledge, although they had picked forms for the election. The aggrieved supporters stormed the party’s regional office to demand an end to the illegality. They later petitioned the court to place an injunction on the election.

The NPP polling station elections in some constituencies of the Central Region and other parts of the country have been marred by disagreements over claims of unfairness in the process.
