Ghanaian Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are set to benefit from the launch of WhatsAppreneurs campaign by Messaging platform WhatsApp.

According to WhatsApp, the campaign is to uplift African SMEs by profiling small entrepreneurs from Africa who are using the WhatsApp Business app to grow their business and reach more customers.

The campaign is expected to highlight the stories of Small and Medium Business owners in Africa and help them learn more about business growth opportunities available with the WhatsApp Business app through a virtual educational webinar, according to the company’s release.

Balkissa Ide Siddo, Public Policy Director for Africa, expressed his happiness while highlighting the importance of the initiative to the future prospects of SMEs on the continent.

The Public Policy Director indicated that the WhatsApp Business App is already transforming business on the continent, and as such, the new campaign will also help to improve the SMEs on the African Continent.

“Across Africa, small and medium business owners are using the WhatsApp Business app to develop their business, showcase their products, close sales, and connect with their customers.

“The WhatsApp Business app provides a tool to help businesses thrive in their markets, reach more customers, and grow their businesses consistently.”

As SMEs represent a sizable percentage of the economic population demonstrating immense potential for growth, opportunity creation, and overcoming poverty post-pandemic, there is a need to provide support through digital tools to help them scale.

The WhatsAppreneurs campaign would serve the purpose of providing the resources businesses need to unlock their growth potential and help build a more resilient, inclusive, and empowered society.

In addition to helping businesses grow, the WhatsApp Business app also provides an opportunity for businesses to create a much deeper and stronger relationship with their customers, often starting with real-time one on one conversations via chat, unlike transactional phone calls or SMS.

Meanwhile, the company disclosed that it is now making it possible for businesses to add a ‘buy’ button in other places that will take customers to WhatsApp chat in a single click to complete their purchase.

The WhatsApp Business app is free and allows users to create a business catalogue on WhatsApp that can be viewed by users from anywhere.

The app was built with the small business owner in mind. With the app, businesses can interact with customers easily by using tools to automate, sort, and quickly respond to messages.

More than 2 billion people in over 180 countries use WhatsApp to stay in touch with friends and family, anytime and anywhere. WhatsApp is free and offers simple, secure, reliable messaging and calling, all over the world.
