A member of the NDC Finance Committee in Parliament, Richard Acheampong, has intimated that the team government presents to meet IMF must have good policies

Richard Acheampong suggested that government must present economic intellectuals to meet with the Assessment team from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

“The team that will meet with the IMF must have good policies for the country.”

Richard Acheampong

According to him, he will be surprised if the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, is included in Ghana’s team for the meeting. He described Mr. Ofori-Atta as a ‘clueless’ Minister. “He could not even explain himself well to us in parliament.”

Richard Acheampong stated that the Akufo-Addo-led government’s mismanagement has led to the current situation. He explained that the government introduced some ‘fantastic’ policies like the Free SHS program but it collapsed along the line due to bad management.

“They didn’t have a blueprint for such a fantastic policy. They got it all wrong from the beginning.”

Apologize to John Mahama

Also sharing her view on the latest development, Rachel Nana Adwoa Appoh, the former National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central in the Central Region has urged the current government to apologize to John Dramani Mahama.

According to her, the apology is the most needful thing to do, especially when Ghana has crawled back to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a bailout.

“You see your own words have eventually come round to hit you guys. You talk and brag too much, that’s your problem as a Government. Humble yourself and apologize to President Mahama because he is indeed a visionary leader.”

Rachel Appoh

The former Gender Minister stated that she believes Ghana’s return to the International body vindicates former President Mahama in respect of the plethora of attacks he suffered from the NPP when in office. She also added that the NPP brags too much.

“You people used all manner of terrible words to criticize his Government while you people had not experienced what it takes to lead a country. The level of shame and disgrace is too much to bare after all the IMF bragging I guess.”

Rachel Appoh

The government announced on Friday, July 1, 2022, that it had decided to engage the IMF on a balance of payment support because of the global economic meltdown necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war.

Those crises, it indicated, has resulted in high inflation, fuel price hikes, and depreciation of the local currency and eroded the country’s foreign reserves and buffers.
