The President Surrenders In Times Of Crisis- Samuel Ablakwa

MP for the North Tongu Constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa

The MP for the North Tongu Constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has stated that President Akuffo Addo, has surrendered at a time when the country is facing serious crisis.

He noted that the President throws tantrums in times of despair, making reference to recent comments by the President which suggested that he was not bothered if people vote for the NDC or not.

He compared the tone of the current President to that of Former President John Mahama, indicating that the two behaviors were in contrast with each other.  He further stated that, the current President is expected to talk in a reconciliatory manner which will rally the people together.

The President needs to admit to the people about the current issues going on, and acknowledge the fact that he has not shown the kind of leadership he promised, the MP stated. He noted that the President asked Ghanaians to give him a chance during the times when he solicited for votes, adding that the President should admit his fault and ask for a chance to make things better.

“So, where is that character when he wanted the votes? When he was very modest, very warm, very respectful, very genteel. Where is all of that? Now, it’s all about tantrums, it’s a certain arrogance and a very dismissive attitude.”

Hon. Ablakwa is of the view that the current President has a lot to learn from the posture of Former President John Dramani Mahama.

“The President and the current regime have a lot to learn from the Former President’s posture, and I hope that as the current President seeks to address the nation a couple of days from now, he will adapt a similar posture.”

According to him, the anger of the people should not be underestimated, and as a hand-on MP like him who is always with the people and hears them out, knows the gravity of the people’s suffering.

We Cannot Overcome These Issues Without Calmness

Professor Ransford Gyampo, a Political Science lecturer of the University of Ghana, noted that the current issues cannot be tackled if the people are not calm and united. He stated that the problems of this country cannot be surmounted without the people rallying behind the President.

Prof. Gyampo indicated that one of the ways in which the people can be united and calmed is when the leader of the country comes up and speaks to the people. He added that the President should call for unity and show the people that he is working to fix the problems at hand.

“We didn’t vote for you to come into power and go round, when there is crisis, you must show leadership. You have to be able to show the direction which you want the country to go, and also speak words that will calm the people’s hearts,”

Ransford Gyampo

According to him, the President has made up his mind not to reshuffle the ministers regardless of the calls of Ghanaians. He explained that the President needed to reshuffle because there are some skills that are not needed in a particular ministry, but that same skill might be needed in a different ministry.

He noted that some ministers are doing very well and others are doing otherwise therefore, those who are not giving off their best need to be taken out to bring about efficiency and accountability.
