Attack on Kyiv as G20 meeting goes on.

Kyiv, Capital city of Ukraine

The capital city of Ukraine, Kyiv, has been attacked on the 15th of November 2022, by strikes from Russian missiles at the same time as the meeting of the world leaders at the G20 summit in Indonesia goes on.

The missile strikes did not only affect the city of Kyiv but other cities such as Mykolaiv, Chernihiv and Zaporizhzhia, among other places. Several residential buildings around the city were also damaged and a building caught fire in a place thought to be in Kyiv.

According to Mayor Klitschko, three buildings in the Pechersk district were hit as well. The attacks were reported when Russia’s Foreign Minister and representative at the talks, Sergei Larov left Bali on a plane.

Mayor Klitschko also mentioned that Russian missiles were successfully shot down by the Ukrainian troops in Kyiv, and rescue teams were already in different places. Air raid alerts are in position across the country as well, and this is evident that Ukraine is taking possible cautious measures to reduce and prevent further damage.

According to the Mayor of Mykolayiv, Vitaly Kimm, the missiles had been launched in three waves. Up in the north, in the city of Chernihiv, Governor Vyacheslav Chaus issued a warning to residents to take shelter, adding that “the missile strike is still continuing.”

In light of these recent attacks on various Ukrainian cities, the western part of the country did not seem to be an exception to these air strikes. In the city of Lviv, located in the west, the city’s Mayor, Andriy Sadovy confirmed that there have been attacks in his city as well, with power cuts as a result of these attacks.

Attack On Kyiv – A Result Of Zelensky’s Speech

Presidential adviser to the Ukrainian President, Andriy Yermak, said that the missile strikes from Russia were Russia’s response to President Zelensky’s “powerful speech” at the meeting with the G20.

During the virtual speech, President Zelensky addressed what he referred to as the “G19 leaders” as a way of snubbing Moscow due to the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. He said at the meeting that he was “convinced that, now is the time when the Russian destructive war must and can be stopped.”

In the absence of Putin at the G20 meeting, Zelensky repeatedly addressed the leaders as “G19” excluding Russia, and he further accused Russia of trying to “turn the cold into a weapon against millions of people” by striking bombs at key Ukrainian energy facilities, knowing very well that winter approaches soon.

According to a draft declaration from the summit which was seen by some news agencies, “most countries agreed that the war was exacerbating fragilities in the global economy.” This statement was evident giving the high rise of fuel and oil prices around the world since one of the world’s leading producer and distributor of oil [ Russia] is in an ongoing war and two of its gas pipelines have been shut.

Not only did this war affect fuel prices, but it affected many world economies as well. Many countries are currently going through the issue of inflation which subsequently leads to a failing economy in most cases.

Mr. Lavrov, Russia’s Foreign Minister and representative at the talk, said that the declaration made at the summit had been “politicized” by Ukraine’s Western allies.
