Absa Group Signals Fresh Era with High-Profile Executive Changes

Absa Bank

Absa Bank Ghana, formerly known as Barclays Bank Ghana has redefined its manual account opening process by introducing digital account opening.

The bank is living up to its promise of bringing the possibilities of its customers to life. With a long history spanning over a century in Ghana’s banking industry, originally under the Barclays brand, the bank is constantly innovating and solidifying its position as a leader in the banking and corporate sectors.

From today, January 11, 2023, new and existing customers do not need to go to the branch to open an account. With just a click of a button on its website, customers can now open an account without any physical intervention, anywhere, anytime and on any device.

Customer needs are changing globally, fueled by fast-paced digital services and products now readily made available with the swift evolution of technology.

As a result, progressive banks are racing ahead to find innovative and creative ways to meet these needs in a very competitive banking landscape.

In the Ghanaian context, the pandemic paved the way for dynamic ways of engaging customers. Suddenly, going to the branch became a challenge for some customers; who preferred to stay in the comfort of their homes and conduct transactions, making the innovation of ABSA stand a better chance.

The new service by Absa drastically simplifies the account opening process and provides a huge relief and convenience for, especially new customers of the bank. The platform will also enable Small and Medium-Scaled Emterprise (SME) customers to submit applications online for processing in a seamless manner.

According to Charles Addo, Absa’s Retail Banking Director, the pandemic brought about new ways of doing things, especially spiking up customer’s interest to go digital in order to avoid physical contacts.

With the world gradually transitioning into the digital era and the bank having the needs of its customers at heart, Charles Addo made reference to their innovation; digital account opening, as a step towards satisfying the needs of their customers and making them more comfortable.

“We are always listening and innovating to meet the needs of our new and existing customers. The pandemic taught banks a lot of things.

“The age of ‘branchless’ banking is here and our digital account opening platform, highlights the extent we are willing to go to make their lives better and more comfortable.”
