General-Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that all is set for the opening of nominations for the election of its Presidential candidates and Parliamentary candidates for the 2024 General Elections.

As such, effective, today, Wednesday 22nd February 2023, nomination forms for Parliamentary Candidates will be accessible to all persons for purchase on the official website of the party.

Contained in a statement signed by the General Secretary of the NDC, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, it revealed that nomination forms for Presidential aspirants can be obtained from the Office of the General Secretary at the Party’s Headquarters at Adabraka, Accra, effective 8am today.

The Functional Executive Committee of the party has however put the opening of nominations for parliamentary primaries in some constituencies on hold. These constituencies include Ayawaso Central, Amasaman, Afram Plains South, Akwatia, Efutu, Gomoa Central, Amenfi East and Evalue Gwira.

The Functional Executive Committee will in due course announce the date for the opening of nominations in the above Constituencies.

Meanwhile, former President John Dramani Mahama has declared his intention to contest for the presidency in the 2024 presidential election. The former President made this disclosure when members of the Minority Caucus in Parliament paid him a visit at his residence.

The members from the minority caucus were at Mr Mahama’s office to inform him about their decision to endorse his candidature for flagbearer-ship if he announces same. At the meeting, the former President assured the members he will run for President, expressing that he will make a public announcement soon.

The constituency Chairmen of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Greater Accra Region iterated their support and endorsement for former President John Dramani Mahama, should he decide to contest the party’s presidential primaries.

The Greater Accra Chairmen Caucus during the courtesy call emphasized on the need for Mr. Mahama to lead the party to the 2024 election.

According to the 33 chairmen, it is only former President John Mahama who can lead and win the elections for the NDC in 2024.

The caucus, led by Dome Kwabenya Chairman, Isaac Lamptey, also promised that they will raise and pay the filing fee of GH¢500,000 for Mr. Mahama to contest the NDC primaries.

Furthermore, the NDC youth in the Volta Region have equally expressed their desire for John Dramani Mahama to run unopposed for the flagbearership race of the party ahead of the polls.

The group believes that there “is no need for flagbearer elections, but instead the party should directly endorse the former president as flagbearer of the party for the 2024 presidential elections”.

On Monday, February 20, 2023, leadership of four unions – Motor Riders Union, True Drivers Union, Concerned Drivers Union and Abossey Okai Spare-part Dealers Association, petitioned John Dramani Mahama, urging him to contest for the Presidency.

If elected President, John Dramani Mahama will, in the opinion of the unions, be the finest person to address the nation’s current economic problems.

Presenting the petition to the office of the former President, the Public Relations Officer of the Motor Riders Association, Setsofia Quashie, indicated that Ghanaians are desirous of a change in administration that will result in the transformation of the economy.

His Excellency John Mahama’s declaration comes after many have expressed disappointment in the current government for its mismanagement of Ghana’s economy. He has on numerous occasions advised the government on ways it could make the economy better.
