According to Nick Thomas-Symonds, the ideological similarities between UK-labour and US-Democrats, would make that, business transactions among the states very easy, provided they both excel in their upcoming elections, next year.

The Labour shadow secretary for trade, made his argument by comparing the philosophical connectivity between the two parties.

Thomas-Symonds explained that, due to the differences in ideologies, the Tory government trade pacts with the Democratic-Biden administration has not really done well, but he believed that the Labour party would conduct business with any US Democrat government very easily.

Thomas-Symonds however, averred that, labour’s eagerness to explore protecting labor and ecological rights in such pact, would put the party at a pole position to achieving its goals in the future.

In the same vein, Labour representatives cited Thomas-Symonds’ interaction with Tai as evidence that, the Biden administration has been considering their viewpoint.

In his Washington visit, Thomas-Symonds met with the US trade representative, Katherine Tai, to have serious deliberations on the possibility of UK-US electronic commerce agreement.

Thomas-Symonds arrived at these conclusions after he paid Washington a visit in July this year. He further claimed that, his visit epitomize an increasingly solid economic partnership between the Labour party and the Democrats.

“We share the Biden administration’s worker-centric trade policy. The Biden administration will have a strong ally in a Labour government. I think it would be great to have those shared priorities across the Atlantic, whether on workers’ rights, consumer protections, environmental protections, and the ‘jobs first’ agenda. Together the two could be really powerful allies for those priorities across the world, especially when it comes to signing trade agreements.”

Also members of the labour party believed that, such agreement will ensure tariff-free transatlantic data flows, thus eliminating heddles for sectors like financial services and cybersecurity.

The shadow trade secretary has been a frontier among labour shadow ministers, aiming to build cogent and healthy ties with top brass in the Democrat party.

Thomas-Symonds’ visit preceded Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves’, when she compared her economic term by name “securenomics” with what the current US administration called “Bidenomics.”

“Securenomics” and “Bidenomics” economic ideologies broaden their arguments on the need for governments to play larger role on the economy, like funding green technologies or safeguarding employees’ rights in the wake of emerging advanced technogies.

The United States and the United Kingdom have maintained diplomatic ties for a long time. The two countries consented to strengthen their commercial ties including “harnessing the benefits of digital trade.”

However, deliberations concerning the pact has ceased, due to an array issues raised by the Democratic congress members, challenging the viability of the deal, aimed at empowering giant technological corporations.

Also, Rishi Sunak and Joe Biden, earlier this year, agreed to establish a treaty on essential minerals that would grant Britain access to elements like cobalt, graphite, and lithium, used in the development of batteries. However, the deal is yet to be formalized.

After it became evident that the US would not prioritize a more comprehensive free trade agreement, the shadow trade secretary disclosed that, an agreement on digital trade may open the door to a number of other sector-specific agreements.

In addition to digital trade agreements that the Tory government has brokered with the US, Nick Thoams-Symonds declined to mention what might have provided with regards to the digital trade agreement.

The Biden administration has widened the reach of environmental laws through international accords, such as the latest deal with the European Union on environmentally friendly steel and aluminum.
