Director of research and elections for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Evans Nimako, has dared the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to put forth policies that will transform the country.

According to him, the NPP has plans of reviving the country’s economy on winning the 2024 elections. He revealed that the party is equally strategizing to put its best foot forward.

“When the party took over in 2016, things were not just as easy, but the party put together a team that transformed it and I’m saying that there’s going to be turnaround from these challenges we are going through. When we are done with our internal elections and selected our presidential candidate, we will draw the balance sheet between the NDC’s presidential candidate Mr Mahama, who has been around since 2012 to 20016.
“We know him and as we speak, the New Patriotic Party keeps on coming up with programs and policies. Let the NDC also put forth policies that will transform Ghana. Where are the alternatives?”

Mr Nimako stated that government is not oblivious of that fact that the economy needs to be improved, and that there are issues bordering on security, arrears of workers and hikes in electricity and fuel prices which ought to be addressed. He explained that on the party’s part, it will support the government to fashion out programs and policies that will resolve the challenges confronting the country.

He further noted that because of such policies, Ghanaians will be convinced enough to guarantee the party victory in the December 2024 elections.

“The party and government are aware of that, that’s why we will put our support behind the government to develop programs that will take us from the challenges that we are going through. Depending on where you sit, you’ll appreciate the otherwise, but at the end of the day, we must make life meaningful for all Ghanaians and that is what the government is working towards…”

Commenting on the upcoming superdelegates conference, Mr Nimako stated that the party after the conduct of the internal elections and selection of presidential candidate, will draw out the balance sheet between the NDC’s presidential candidate Mr Mahama, and the New Patriotic Party’s presidential candidate.

On the issue of the campaign style and management of the various presidential candidates, he explained that the party after adopting the elections committee’s report, reminded the presidential aspirants of the party’s code of conduct that has been put together by the National Executive Committee (NEC).

“So, the party has the chairman of the Council of Elders, honorable Hackman Owusu-Agyemang as the member of committee. The Chairman of the legal and constitutional committee, Frank Davis, and the general secretary of the party, lawyer Koduah – are the three-member committee to coordinate the conduct and ensure full compliance of the code of conduct…”

Furthermore, the NPP’s director of election stated that after successive engagements with the presidential aspirants and their agents, by the elections committee and other stakeholders, there has been a consensus on the need to conduct an exercise that will meet the party’s set rules, constitution and rules and regulations for the conduct of the primaries.

He indicated that at the end of the day, the New Patriotic Party is going to submit and sponsor a presidential candidate who is going to be the next President.

“We are mindful of the terrain and contours of the democratic landscape, and I’ll once again assure Ghanaians that the New Patriotic Party is ready to do the needful to conduct campaign toward the 2024 elections and come out victorious…”

Commenting on internal wranglings by aspirants within the party in the lead-up to the delegates conference, Mr Nimako highlighted that this is not a new venture for the party, as it has in the past addressed concerns of such nature.

“The New Patriotic Party has done this before. We went into 2007 presidential primaries; our Council of Elders are ready to engage all stakeholders. Even before this process comes to an end, the continuous engagement by the elections committee and the presidential candidates and their agents have given the party enough hope that we are ready to go through this process.
“If you see our guidelines for the conduct of this Special Electoral College, it tells a lot and it just didn’t come from heaven, it something that has been fashioned out by engagement with all key stakeholders…”

Moreover, Mr Nimako expressed that the party and its members will continue to “work hand-in-hand and do things that will put us in the light and make sure that the people will have confidence in us to win 2024 elections”.
