Popular Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has opened up about the difficult decision to end her marriage with her ex-husband, shedding light on the deeply personal reasons behind her choice.

Angela Okorie revealed that it was a gradual process, acknowledging that she fell out of love with her ex-husband, Chukwuma Orizu.

The single mother claimed that she grew weary of her marriage as a result of persistent pressure from her husband’s relatives to give up entertainment.

She stated that despite having the full support of her ex-husband, she still didn’t find peace and fulfillment in staying married in the family.

In her words:

“I won’t advise anybody to be in a marriage when you’re not in love with the man. I think that’s the reason a lot of women cheat. In this Lekki, you have too many women who cheat in their marriages. For me, I fell out of love. The man [my ex-husband] was a good man. I fell out of love because of what his family was doing. The family didn’t want me to continue acting. They didn’t want me to do anything acting. They were like, ‘If we are going to marry you, you’ll stop doing entertainment.’ And I will be like, ‘Even my mum can’t even stop me. That is my life. Do you know how many years it took me?’

“He [my ex-husband] was in support of me. He doesn’t even stress me but because of the whole saga, it was like I was in a place where the people didn’t even understand my vision. They don’t understand what I’m chasing. You need to chase it with me. This is what your wife wants. You can’t kill my dream. This is what I’ve worked for so many years to get here. So, you can’t just wake up and say, ‘Because you want to marry me, [I should] give up on my dreams.”

Revealing Severe Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Angela Okorie revealed that she suffered from severe post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after she escaped an assassination attempt in December 2019.

She asserted that she battled with insomnia and acute stress disorder for over three years and was constantly under security surveillance.

The thespian also alleged that someone in the movie industry sponsored the assassination attempt on her life.

“I went through hell. We were actually coming from a show when we were attacked by gunmen. It was very traumatizing. For three good years, it was hard for me to have a relationship or do anything. I had PTSD. And then I developed insomnia, shock disorder, and all that,” she said.

“I had to always move around with security. It’s so embarrassing because there are some places you want to go to that you don’t need security but because I was traumatized, I don’t know who was about to shoot me again. So I had to. It was an assassination attack sponsored by someone in the movie industry. It’s from the industry because we were coming from a show,” she further stated.

Recall that Angela Okorie announced via Instagram in 2019 that she narrowly escaped assassination, “10 bullets were removed from my head and 2 bullets close to my eyes,” she revealed.

Months ago, Angela Okorie admonished her female colleagues to stop pretending that acting alone is behind their lavish lifestyle.

Angela Okorie stated that many of her colleagues have other side hustles to fund their lifestyle.

According to her, the only reason why actresses are more successful than their male colleagues is because they have other sources of income.

She noted how upcoming actresses, who have barely lasted a year in the industry, flaunt mansions and credit the industry for their expensive possessions.

For her, such acts make those who have been in the industry for years look unserious.

Angela reiterated that they can’t tell her, that acting alone is behind such a lifestyle as she is also in the field and has been there for years.
