Ghanaian actress and former Guinness World Record contender Adu Safowaah has opened up about the major reasons she embarked on her GWR attempt.

Adu Safowaah revealed that her attempt was a way of redeeming herself from her controversial past.

She recounted how she had fame but lost it due to her diverging into unnecessary controversies and losing a lot of opportunities, particularly from most business moguls.

“You know I’m that person who saw fame early. I saw in 2015 via ‘Adonko Fa me ko’. That same year I had the opportunity to win Best New Actress in Entertainment in Nigeria. But on the way, I diverted into controversy, and, Bella, I lost almost everything that I’ve built, because, in the world of controversy, that is when nobody wants to be associated with you.

“And these people were people that I could have opportunities from, but none were coming because everyone was like, this lady talks too much. I was happy then. Because, you know, people were talking about you almost every week, I was trending in Ghana, Africa, and wherever you can talk about it, one issue or the other. So, Bella, at a point, I lost everything.”

She mentioned that her speech-a-thon was a way to refine herself and reclaim the opportunities she lost as a result of her turbulent past.

“God, being so good, anytime I take my phone and I come on social media and you’re doing your stuff, I’m like, Berla is young. She’s doing magic. I have the energy. I could do more, but these things have stopped me. So which way can I come back to how God started with me in 2015? So I took a journey of rebirth. The rebirth is going on. And it started with the longest speech marathon with the Guinness World Record.

“And if I’m able to go through that opportunity, I will use it to refine myself and now get back the opportunities that I’ve been getting all this while.”

Encouraging Youths To Seize Opportunities

Adu Safowaah encouraged the youth of Ghana to seize opportunities and challenge themselves, regardless of recognition.

According to her, the youth should strive for such achievements, like her own Guinness record attempt, as it can transform one’s view of life and open up new possibilities.

“How many people are trying? Even the youth are not showing enough interest. We are people who love to exaggerate. By the end of the day, after the Guinness World Record, believe me, you will see life in a different picture. Let them do it. If there is anyone in this room who wants to do a ‘thon’. Go ahead.”

Adu Safowaah

Adu Safowaah disclosed that there is nothing wrong with the number of ‘thons’ ongoing in the country.

Ghana has been awash with news of various individuals attempting to break one Guinness World Record or another, usually a marathon, and this has led many to say that the ‘thons’ were getting out of hand.

However, Adu Safowaah disregarded such concerns, stating that the GWR attempts were ‘exaggerated’ and not as rampant as indicated.

“We are approximately 33 million people. And the people even attempting, as of now that we are seeing, are not up to 20. But even the youth in this room are more than 20. Let everyone have that opportunity with their lives. You know, when every youth can dare themselves and take that opportunity, even if nobody notices, give yourself a try. It’s very important. Whatever ‘thons’ we are seeing, there is nothing wrong with it. Let everyone have that opportunity in their lives.”
