Afua Asantewaa Aduonum has admitted that her singing marathon attempt to break and set a Guinness World Record (GWR) last year may have opened doors of opportunity for her, but she wouldn’t give the venture credit for all the fame she is currently enjoying.
Afua who is a journalist, event organizer, and entrepreneur doesn’t hesitate to point out that, she was already basking in fame before the singing marathon, nicknamed Sing-A-Thon which came off from December 24-29, 2023 at the Akwaaba Village, Airport, Accra.
Explaining herself, she noted that she was famous before embarking on her Sing-A-Thon project, stating that all those who are saying she did it to be popular are very wrong.
“First of all, Sing-A-Thon was not for fame because I already had it. I meet celebrities all the time and all those who passed through the Akwaaba Village during my singing marathon were people I encounter often. I am a journalist and I have interviewed almost all the actors, musicians, and celebs who came to show me, love, at the Akwaaba Village, so it is not like I was seeing them for the first time,” she said.
“Although I will not rule out the fact that Sing-A-Thon made a lot more people know about me, I was famous in my own way,” she remarked.
She also stated that her aim for embarking on her Sing-A-Thon project was to push Ghanaian songs and she was glad she was able to achieve that even though she couldn’t break and set a new GWR.
“At the end of the day, I was able to make Ghanaian songs popular worldwide because this was a global thing. So many people outside this country started paying attention to our songs after my Sing-A-Thon and it is a plus for the nation, in fact, for all of us” she asserted.
Touching on her next GWR attempt, Afua Asantewaa noted that she is yet to plan with her team for the appropriate time but for now, all she could say was a big thank you to Ghanaians for the massive support shown to her, and she was very grateful.
Afua Crowns Shatta Wale
Ghanaian internet sensation and media personality, Afua Asantewaa Aduonum gives controversial reggae dancehall artist, Shatta Wale, his flowers and crowns him the sweetest soul she’s ever met.
In an appreciative post sighted on her official Facebook account, Afua Asantewaa made the revelation when she shared a video of the moment the self-acclaimed dancehall king thronged the Akwaaba Village to support her during her Sing-A-Thon.
Shatta Wale paid Afua Asantewaa a visit when she was attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon.
However, she was unfortunately disqualified by the entity and came under scrutiny from Ghanaians but Shatta Wale stood out for her.
According to Shatta Wale in a recent publication, Afua Asantewaa did very well in taking up the initiative to promote Ghanaian music with her Sing-A-Thon attempt and heaped praises on her.
Shatta Wale, however, believes that the attacks are needless, describing Afua Asantewaa as the “Yaa Asantewaa of our time” irrespective of her disqualification.
“Some Ghanaians won’t appreciate you but Shatta Wale and his Shatta movement fans say Ayekoo God said I should tell you, you are the YAA ASANTEWAA OF OUR TIME… Go girl and forget some lazy Ghanaians… They just don’t appreciate but God and Shatta Wale fans appreciate your course to make our music get to the highest heights. You did it, girl Afua Asantewaa O Aduonum,” he wrote on Facebook.
