Ghanaian actress and TV presenter, Gloria Sarfo has shared her grass-to-grace story. She recounted one of her most embarrassing encounters with a taxi driver.

According to her, she became the support system of her family at an early age while struggling to find her feet in her career.

As a result, she sometimes could barely afford to pay for transportation fares moving from one audition to another.

“And because ‘trotro’ wasn’t ideal, I will hire a taxi with the hope of calling someone to ask for money to pay him when I get to my destination. There are times I will get down from the taxi just to make calls but won’t get the money to pay or even if I do, the money would have to cater for the house because it was that tough.”

On one of such adventures, Miss Sarfo stated that she asked the taxi driver to come for the money at her home in Burma Camp where she stayed with her family at the time even though there was none to give.

“This taxi driver came early morning even before we woke up and was visibly angry because of the way he banged on the door and drew the attention of our neighbours. It was a very embarrassing moment for me but I had to endure.”

Despite the difficult start of her career, Miss Sarfo revealed that she is always grateful to God for helping her to break boundaries.

“Now these taxi drivers are my friends and I share with them what God has blessed me with from time to time,” she said.

Gloria Narrates Why She Lost Movie Roles

Actress Gloria Sarfo revealed the misconception some movie producers had about her not being fluent in the English language due to her popular roles in local production especially in the ‘Efiewura’ series.

She disclosed that she was sidelined for many roles because she was a cast member in the ‘Efiewura’ series, which shot her to fame.

She explained that the narrative cost her many roles at the time because some producers even assumed she wasn’t fit to play glamorous roles.

“Before I used to get worried, I used to talk a lot. Because of the ‘Efiewura’ tag, people thought I couldn’t even express myself in the English Language so everything was about I am a local actress because of ‘Efiewura’. I was actually told that because of my active roles in local series, I have the least chance to be given a role as a wealthy man’s daughter in any glamour movie. Like, are we that shallow?

“But thankfully, AMVCA, it was speaking ‘Twi’ that got me there. Speaking ‘Twi’ is my identity, this is who I am. Thanks to Shirley Frimpong Manso, she knows I do ‘Efiewura’ but she was like, ‘Gloria, do it your own way, blend the dialogue with the ‘Twi’ language if you are comfortable with it. Do your own thing’. I did that and it worked and with God, it became successful.”

Gloria mentioned that she’s not bothered being tagged as a local actress but felt very uncomfortable with the negativity attached to it.

“I play lead roles in movies that when the posters come out, my face will not be on it and the only reason I have been told is because I don’t appeal to the target audience. And I’m like, ‘So you knew and you still brought me on to do what exactly’?”
