Renowned Ghanaian actress and fashion icon, Nana Akua Addo has recently captured the attention of the fashion world with a stunning gown she donned at the 10th Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards (AMVCAs) in May 2024.

Nana Akua Addo shared that the exquisite piece cost a hefty price.

“I did buy it. it’s in my closet. $11,000.”

The actress explained that the gown, a masterpiece by Indian designer Gaurav Gupta, has had its price escalate since her purchase, and thanked the designer’s skyrocketing fame after dressing other celebrities like Cardi B.

“And now it’s even more expensive. It was the same designer from then. He’s become big.”

Nana Akua’s gown, which featured an intricate 3D design and was complemented by a striking Heidilee Endless Echo hat and a radiant shell-shaped clutch, was the talk of the town at the AMVCAs.

The actress took a hands-on approach to the gown’s design, requesting additional birds to be added to the already existing line and a cage concept beneath the fabric, transforming it from a simple piece into a work of art.

The fashion icon disclosed her source of income for the expensive outfits she wears to red carpet events.

“Yes, I don’t owe anybody any explanation. It’s my life. Most importantly, I’m not robbing and I’m not doing anything illegal. However, I own it to my fans. So like I said, if I’m not on the red carpet, I’m building with my husband.”

Nana Akua Addo

According to her, she does not communicate her business to the public because it would be attacked the moment she finds herself in chaos.

“I want to be able to live my life and my husband having his business that anything happens to me, it doesn’t even affect our business that is taking care of our home.”

Nana Akua Addo

She also revealed her strategy for handling the glamorous gowns she wears to red carpet events.

According to her, she rents out the gown after wearing it or sells it to interested individuals.

However, she emphasized that she only rents out the gowns if the price offered is satisfactory and deemed worthwhile.

Red Carpet, A Place to Flaunt Elegance

Fashionista, Nana Akua Addo urged celebrities to abstain from showing up on red carpets holding their phones and car keys.

Nana Akua stressed that the red carpet is an occasion to flaunt elegance and make a fashion statement rather than a laid-back gathering where commonplace objects should be on display.

“We should cease carrying our phones and car keys to the red carpet; it’s outdated. Sometimes, you attend a red-carpet event and notice individuals with their phones, and need to tell them to hand them over to their personal assistant or someone.

“Where Nigerians are taking fashion to is on a different level, they are advancing … Utterly professional. Their personal assistants and aides are present, ensuring that everything is taken care of before you step onto the red carpet. The focus is just you, your brand, what you are wearing attire; nothing to distract you.”

Nana Akua Addo

Nana Akua Addo argued that moments on the red carpet are to showcase design and what one is wearing not the material things, adding that no one cares about the car an individual drives.

According to her, she feels intimidated on the AMVCAs red carpet because of the unwelcoming atmosphere, particularly for Ghanaians, due to what she perceives as Nigerians’ reluctance to share the spotlight.
