The unveiling of the National Liberation Congress (NLC) vision and manifesto has injected a fresh wave of optimism and ambition into Ghana’s political landscape. Led by Stephen Atubigah, the NLC’s strategic approach to addressing the nation’s challenges signals a departure from the status quo and a bold vision for the future of the country.

Mr. Atubigah did not mince words when critiquing the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the NLC’s mother party. He accused the NDC of straying from its foundational socialist principles and neglecting the needs of the poor and marginalized segments of society.

According to Mr. Atubigah, the NDC’s failure to uphold its core values has led to widespread disillusionment among the populace, particularly those who are most vulnerable.

“The NLC believes that moving this country forward, with all its 35 million citizens, requires running the country like a business entity.”

Stephen Atubigah, NCL’s Leader

Mr. Atubigah emphasized that previous governments had treated Ghana as a sole proprietorship, resulting in inefficiencies and missed opportunities. This critical assessment underscores the NLC’s commitment to a more systematic and inclusive approach to governance.

One of the most striking points in Mr. Atubigah’s address was his analysis of Ghana’s workforce dynamics. He highlighted the stark reality that less than one million Ghanaians are on the government payroll, including security personnel and civil servants.

With approximately ten million children and underage individuals, this leaves around 24 million citizens in the private sector, encompassing a wide range of professions such as drivers, technicians, engineers, and traders.

This demographic distribution underscores the need for robust job creation strategies, particularly for the youth who face alarmingly high unemployment rates. Mr. Atubigah was unequivocal in his commitment to addressing this issue.

“The NLC has a plan to pull all along with the vision of giving hope to all citizens. Especially jobs, jobs, jobs to the youth,” Mr. Atubigah emphasized. This focus on employment is a central pillar of the NLC’s strategy, promising to harness the potential of Ghana’s young population to drive economic growth.

Financial Infrastructure and Economic Restructuring

A key component of the NLC’s economic strategy is the establishment of more banks tailored to various sectors of the economy. By expanding financial infrastructure, the party aims to ensure sufficient funding and foster partnerships between the government and citizens. This approach is intended to create a more supportive environment for businesses and stimulate economic activity across different sectors.

Mr. Atubigah articulated a vision where these financial institutions would play a pivotal role in revamping the nation’s economic structures. This would not only promote inclusive growth but also restore faith in governance by demonstrating tangible results. The NLC’s plan reflects a belief in the power of strategic investments and public-private partnerships to drive sustainable development.

The NLC’s manifesto is not just about economic growth; it is also about broad-based development that benefits all Ghanaians. Atubigah assured the public that the NLC is ready to lead Ghana towards a prosperous future, with a strong focus on providing jobs and opportunities for everyone.

Mr. Atubigah stressed the importance of holding current leadership accountable for its shortcomings, while simultaneously working towards a more equitable and just society.

“While holding the current leadership accountable for its shortcomings, the NLC seeks to restore faith in governance and empower every Ghanaian,” Mr. Atubigah asserted.

This dual focus on accountability and empowerment is designed to rebuild trust in the political system and ensure that all citizens can participate in and benefit from the nation’s progress.

As Ghana gears up for the upcoming elections, the NLC’s bold vision and detailed plans are set to become a central theme in the political discourse. Atubigah’s address has already sparked considerable interest and debate, with many citizens eager to see how these ambitious proposals will be implemented.

The NLC’s emphasis on job creation, financial infrastructure, and broad-based development offers a compelling alternative to the status quo, promising a new direction for Ghana under its leadership.

The NLC’s unveiling of its vision and manifesto marks a significant moment in Ghanaian politics. Stephen Atubigah’s critical stance on the NDC, combined with his ambitious plans for economic transformation, sets the stage for a potentially transformative period in Ghana’s history.
