Harris Outpaces Trump’s Funding

U.S Vice President, Kamala Harris.

U.S Vice President, Kamala Harris.

U.S Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign has announced that it raised $310 million last month.

This is more than double the $137m that Donald Trump’s campaign raised last month.

Harris’ campaign also revealed that it entered August with $377 million in cash on hand, which it described as the most for any presidential candidate at this point in the cycle.

It was also well above the $327 million Trump’s team announced having to start the month of August.

Harris Campaign Manager, Julie Chavez Rodriguez said in a statement, “The tremendous outpouring of support we’ve seen in just a short time makes clear the Harris coalition is mobilized, growing, and ready to put in the work to defeat Trump this November.”

“Our money is going to the work that wins close elections.” Rodriguez added.

According to Harris’ campaign, two-thirds of its July donations came from first-time contributors in the 2024 election cycle.

In all, the month saw more than 3 million donors make more than 4.2 million contributions — with more than 2 million donors making their first donation this cycle, while 94% of July’s donations were under $200.

The campaign also said that 60% of its donors in July were women as Harris prepares to be the first woman of color to be nominated for president by a major political party.

Since her entry into the race following Joe Biden’s re-election bid withdrawal, Harris has rallied Democrats across the country, with a new poll revealing that about eight in 10 Democrats say that they would be somewhat or very satisfied if she became the Democratic nominee for President.

Harris’ fundraising has been bolstered, since her presidential campaign began, by virtual fundraisers organized around supporters of distinct backgrounds including Black Women for Harris, Latinas for Harris and even a White Dudes for Harris.

Her campaign said that together, they raised more than $20 million.

Nonetheless, Harris’ team is hoping for another jolt early next week, when she’s expected to announce her own running mate, and during the Democratic convention, which opens in Chicago on August 19, 2024.

Fundraising aside, the Harris campaign said that by last weekend, it had signed up 170,000 new volunteers and held 2,300 events mobilizing thousands of supporters across battleground states.

Harris To Travel To Major Swing States

The U.S Vice President will travel to major swing states including Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona and Nevada over the course of five days next week for campaign events.

Next Tuesday, Harris will return to Philadelphia, which will be her seventh visit to Pennsylvania this year. Harris is expected to announce her running mate by next Tuesday.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, Arizona senator Mark Kelly and transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg are reported contenders for the post.

On Wednesday, Harris will visit Wisconsin – her sixth visit to the state this year and will then stop over at Detroit – her fifth visit to Michigan this year.

On Thursday, Harris return to Raleigh, North Carolina, which will be her eighth visit to the state this year.

On Friday, Harris will travel to Savannah, Georgia, marking her seventh visit to the state this year before going to Phoenix, Arizona – her fourth visit to the state this year.

Harris will end next week’s campaign blitz in Las Vegas, marking her seventh visit to Nevada this year.

Meanwhile, according to a new poll from the conservative group Competitiveness Coalition, Harris is leading Trump in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin by 48% to 45%, as well as 48% to 46% respectively.

The two opponents are also tied 45% to 45% in the swing state of Michigan.
