Democracy relies on informed citizens making rational decisions at the polls.

However, the spread of misinformation and disinformation threatens to undermine this fundamental principle.

The consequences of false information on democracy are far-reaching and devastating, eroding trust, manipulating public opinion, and disrupting democratic processes.

Accordingly, Stan Xoese Dogbe, Special Aide to John Mahama, has condemned certain employees of Asaase Radio for their brazen fabrication and dissemination of falsehoods.

Dogbe noted that their actions demonstrate a willingness to operate in the shadows, promoting conflict and danger, thereby imperiling democracy.

“This Wilberforce A. Asare guy and his boss, Nenyi George Andah, are gradually demonstrating that they are a danger to Ghana’s democracy and will not hesitate to plunge this beautiful country into chaos once they satisfy their political masters”.

Stan Dogbe noted that those familiar with Ghanaian politics will be aware that the NDC and John Mahama recently completed a 4-day campaign tour in the Upper East Region, concluding on Tuesday.

As such, he denied the allegation by Asase Radio that John Mahama’s campaign in the Northern Region was cut short and diverted to the Volta Region because of pressure.

The astute NDC stalwart noted that simply because Asaase Radio’s propagandists heard Mahama mention the Volta Region as his next destination, they hastily fabricated another falsehood.

Stan Dogbe pointed out that it’s widely acknowledged that Asaase Radio was not established to function as a reputable and ethical media outlet.

However, he wondered if George Andah and Wilberforce have any remnants of conscience, given the constant stream of falsehoods they disseminate through Asaase Radio.

The Disinformation Menace

Furthermore, the manipulation of public opinion through disinformation is a particularly insidious threat to democracy.

By creating false narratives and amplifying existing biases, disinformation can be used to sway public opinion and influence political decisions.

This undermines the very foundations of democracy, where informed citizens are supposed to hold elected officials accountable.

Accordingly, Stan Xoese Dogbe pointed out that with partisan politics dominating the National Media Commission, it’s only natural that state institutions fail to take action against such blatant transgressions.

As such, he pointed out that Asaase Radio, George Andah, and Wilberforce are empowered to continue their harmful activities, posing a threat to the nation’s stability.

“No wonder their NPP followers do not consider Asaase in Accra and their affiliates credible and prefer not to listen to them. Just check their growth over the years since they started operations… Do they think going the tangent of broadcasting and publishing false news about John Mahama is what will help them?”
“Mahama and Naana Jane are trustworthy; they are an experienced pair, and they have and continue to outline solutions to the problems your Bawumia and Akufo-Addo have bestowed on us, and your lies won’t help your Bawumia’s campaign in any way”.

Stan Dogbe added that Mahama held a press conference in Bolgatanga, challenging the NPP to send their candidate to meet the media, instead of peddling falsehoods.

He noted that in a country with a serious attitude towards governance, the NPP and its loyalists would face consequences for their reckless spread of misinformation.
