The wife of former President John Dramani Mahama, Madam Lordina Mahama, recently presented medical equipment and supplies to the Tishigu Health Center in the Tamale North constituency.

During her remarks, she emphasized her commitment to supporting vulnerable communities and highlighted the importance of early detection in the fight against breast cancer.

This initiative, led by the Lordina Mahama Foundation, is one of many efforts by the former First Lady to strengthen healthcare access across rural Ghana.

She explained that these limitations threaten the well-being of rural residents and prevent timely healthcare access.

“Our rural communities face unique challenges: the distance they have to travel to receive medical care, the limited resources at these rural healthcare facilities, and sometimes, [the] lack of healthcare professionals, [and] all these factors pose significant challenges to their health and well-being.”

She expressed the foundation’s intention to address these inequalities by equipping local clinics with essential medical supplies, ensuring that even those in the most remote areas can access basic healthcare.

Bridging the Gap in Healthcare Access

In addition to providing medical resources, Mrs. Mahama stressed that her foundation’s efforts aim to make healthcare a fundamental right accessible to all, not a privilege reserved for a few.

“By equipping our local clinic with these essential supplies, we are taking a meaningful step towards bridging this gap. We are working to make healthcare not a privilege for a few but a right for everyone, we must not stand by and allow the health sector to decline.”

Mrs. Mahama also highlighted the foundation’s long-standing commitment to enhancing the quality of life for underprivileged communities.

She pledged to continue supporting healthcare infrastructure to strengthen the healthcare system, particularly in underserved regions.

Promoting Breast Cancer Awareness and Prevention

She urged attendees to embrace regular screenings as a crucial step toward combatting this life-threatening disease.

“Breast cancer impacts many lives, but with regular screening and early detection, we can overcome the disease. I encourage each of you to embrace this opportunity, not just for yourself, but also for your loved ones. Our overall health is equally important and deserves our attention.”

By making breast cancer screening accessible, Mrs. Mahama hopes to reduce the number of lives affected by the disease. Her message centered on the value of preventive care and awareness in minimizing the impact of health issues that disproportionately affect vulnerable populations.

A Call for Collaboration in Health Sector Improvement

Mrs. Mahama called for a collaborative approach to address the healthcare challenges faced by rural areas, encouraging both government and private organizations to work together in building a stronger health sector.

She argued that sustainable progress requires a united effort from all sectors of society.

“Thank you for joining us today for this important event on breast cancer screening and health awareness. Your presence here reflects our commitment to support each other in our desire for better health.”

She underscored that healthcare improvements could reach even the most marginalized communities with mutual support and dedication, ultimately promoting a more equitable health system.

Tamale North MP’s Support for the Lordina Mahama Foundation

Tamale North MP Alhassan Suhuyini joined the event and commended the Lordina Mahama Foundation for its ongoing efforts to support healthcare access in underserved areas.

He praised Mrs. Mahama’s focus on addressing healthcare needs in rural communities, reflecting on her longstanding compassion for those most in need.

“When I went to say hello to her, she said, ‘My son, yes, we are coming to give medical equipment to support the health of the people. But you know I am always worried about people who are deprived in our society.”

He affirmed his commitment to working alongside the foundation to uplift healthcare standards in rural Ghana, recognizing the vital role of this support in transforming lives.

Reinforcing the Importance of Regular Health Screenings

By promoting preventive care, the Lordina Mahama Foundation is actively fostering a culture of health consciousness and early intervention, aiming to alleviate the burden on healthcare facilities.

Through her foundation, Mrs. Mahama reaffirmed a dedication to expanding healthcare access, especially in regions that face systemic challenges.

She envisioned a future where healthcare quality is not dictated by geographic location but is a consistent standard across the country.

The foundation’s focus on supporting vulnerable communities aligns with her broader vision for a Ghana where healthcare is inclusive and accessible to all.

In summary, Mrs. Mahama’s contributions exemplify a holistic approach to healthcare, encompassing preventive screenings, infrastructure support, and advocacy for health equity.

By addressing the healthcare needs of rural communities, the Lordina Mahama Foundation is creating impactful, lasting change that extends beyond temporary aid, driving systemic improvements for future generations.
