Nigerian music superstar, Davido has joined numerous celebrities in reacting to John Mahama’s electoral win.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer is poised to return to the presidency for a second stint after losing both the 2016 and 2020 elections.

Only an official declaration from the Electoral Commission remains, as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia conceded defeat in a press conference at his residence on Sunday, 8 December 2024.

The Vice President’s concession has sparked excitement among netizens and high-profile figures, including singer Davido.

Davido, who recently interacted with Sharaf Mahama during his visit to Ghana, visited his X (formerly Twitter) page to celebrate John Dramani Mahama’s anticipated victory.

The Grammy-nominated musician shared his excitement by posting a photo of himself holding an NDC campaign-branded plastic cup.

Former President John Dramani Mahama has emerged as Ghana’s President-elect following a decisive victory in the 2024 general elections.

Ghanaians headed to the polls on Saturday, 7 December, to elect the next president and parliamentarians for a four-year term.

While the Electoral Commission has yet to declare the results officially, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP presidential candidate, has conceded defeat and congratulated the NDC candidate, John Dramani Mahama.

In a media address on Sunday, 8 December, Dr Bawumia acknowledged his party’s internal collation of provisional results, which confirmed Mr Mahama’s decisive win. He stated that contesting the outcome would be unnecessary:

“I called President Mahama and congratulated him. Ghana is more important than our individual political ambitions.”

He also highlighted the NDC’s strong performance in the parliamentary elections, describing their victory as “hands down.”

Urging unity, he called on all Ghanaians to prioritize the nation’s interest over personal or partisan goals.

The elections, however, were not without challenges. Reports of violent clashes marred the process, with at least two fatalities and several injuries recorded.

Despite these tensions, Dr. Bawumia’s concession has been widely commended as a critical gesture to maintain peace and stability during this pivotal moment in Ghana’s democratic journey.

With the NDC confident of a strong mandate in both presidential and parliamentary races, Ghanaians now await the Electoral Commission’s official confirmation of the results.

The singer, known for his chart-topping hits and influential presence across the continent, is no stranger to celebrating significant moments in African politics.

His acknowledgment of Ghana’s peaceful electoral process highlights the growing synergy between music, culture, and civic life across Africa.

Davido’s post adds to the chorus of voices applauding the democratic maturity displayed during the elections.

Fans and followers flooded Davido’s timeline with reactions, appreciating his love for Ghana and his commitment to celebrating African progress.

Ghana continues to be celebrated globally as a model for peaceful transitions of power, with this election further solidifying its reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa.

Prince David Conceded Defeat as NDC Took Lead

Ghanaian actor, Prince David Osei graciously conceded defeat after projections showed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) took an early lead in the 2024 presidential election.

In a heartfelt statement shared on social media, the outspoken supporter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) reflected on the campaign journey and extended his congratulations to the NDC.

“What a fascinating phenomenon we’ve just witnessed! Ghana has spoken, and the results were not quite what we all anticipated. I am beyond proud of myself, my team, and our collective efforts; we gave it our all and fought a vigorous battle.”

The actor, who had strongly backed the NPP and its presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, emphasized his belief in the party’s policies but acknowledged the cyclical nature of Ghanaian politics.

“The Almighty always has a plan, and Ghana often craves a change every eight years,” he added, expressing optimism for the NPP’s prospects.

He praised his supporters for their unwavering dedication and urged them to stay hopeful, vowing that the party would “bounce back stronger and more resilient in the next four years.”

This heartfelt message comes as the NDC projects a commanding lead for its candidate, John Dramani Mahama. Preliminary results from the party’s collation center show Mahama leading with 56.45% of the votes from 37,200 polling stations out of the total 40,976, while Dr. Bawumia trails with 41.19%.

Prince David Osei’s public endorsement of the NPP during the campaign had drawn significant attention, with the actor championing what he described as Dr Bawumia’s “audacious solution-oriented policies.”

Despite the setback, Osei’s gracious concession has been widely praised, with many viewing it as a call for unity and resilience in Ghana’s democratic process.

As the nation awaits the official declaration of results, Osei ended his statement on a positive note, inviting friendly banter and trolling as a way of fostering political camaraderie. “We don’t give up,” he concluded. “Kukrudu!”

With Ghana at a pivotal moment, all eyes remain on the Electoral Commission as the country looks forward to its official verdict.
