Nigerian singer, Wizkid, has reached a new milestone on Spotify.
He has become the first African artist to surpass 8 billion streams on Spotify.
The 8 billion streams include both leads and features.
His collaborative hit with Canadian superstar, Drake, ‘One Dance,’ is his most streamed song on the platform with over 2 billion streams.
‘One Dance’ holds the Guinness World Record for the first single to hit 1 billion streams on Spotify.
Wizkid’s most streamed album on the platform is the deluxe edition of his fourth studio album, ‘Made In Lagos’ with about a billion streams.
Meanwhile, Burna Boy has hit 7.2 billion streams on Spotify, making him the second most-streamed African artist on the platform.
He is the most followed Afrobeats artiste on the platform.
Moreover, Nigerian music superstars Wizkid and Ayra Starr earned recognition as they secured spots in Chart Data’s list of top artists of 2024.
Released on New Year’s Eve, the list highlights the most influential and impactful artists worldwide.
Wizkid claimed the 11th position while rising star Ayra Starr followed closely at number 18. The inclusion of these two Nigerian superstars further emphasizes the growing influence of African music on the international stage.
South African singer Tyla also made a notable appearance on the list, securing the 12th position.
In the top 10, global pop sensations dominate the rankings. South Korean superstar Jimin takes the lead, with American music legends such as Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter, Beyoncé, and rapper Kendrick Lamar rounding out the top spots.
British pop phenomenon Charli XCX, along with Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, and Nicki Minaj, complete the top 10.
In addition to this recognition, Nigerian artists Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy were also listed among the “Top 20 Music Global Icons Shaping The Future” by Active World.
Davido, who has made waves both locally and internationally, earned the third spot, while Wizkid and Burna Boy secured the 6th and 8th positions, respectively.

Superstar Afrobeats artist, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, better known as Wizkid, once again proved why he is loved by many.
The 34-year-old Nigerian pop star added an exciting twist to his performance during the Greater Lagos Countdown to 2025 concert.
Midway into it as fans jubilated into the New Year, the ‘Dance (Kese)’ crooner started praying for his fans in his native language, Yoruba.
The multi-award-winning artist, born and bred in Ojuelegba, Surulere of Lagos prayed thus in Yoruba,
“First of all, Happy New Year. You will live long on earth. You will be rich. Long life and prosperity for you and all the members of your family.”

Wizkid further seized the opportunity to share what he termed a “very important” message to his fans.
“I have a very important message for you today, Lagos Nigeria. I want you to know that your son, Ayodeji Balogun, AKA Big Wiz, Machala, The Biggest Bird. I want you to know that I am back home now.”

The message sent fans wild as the singer continued his performance.
Recall that the Afrobeats musician joined his colleagues Burna Boy and Davido to perform at the End-of-the-Year party organized by Oando Plc.
The appearance of the top three in the industry at the same event surprised many who know that the trio are currently not on good terms with each other.
Wizkid and Davido, in particular, had one of the messiest online exchanges yet in Afrobeats history in April 2024.
Based on reports, the duo are yet to settle their feud.
