In a recent statement, the Regional Functional Executives Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Central Region of Ghana has expressed heartfelt gratitude for the appointment of Mr. Anthony Kwasi Sarpong as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

This expression of support reflects their unwavering backing for President John Dramani Mahama. Led by Professor Richard Kofi Asiedu, the Regional Chairman of the NDC in the Central Region, the Committee emphasized Mr. Sarpong’s exceptional dedication to the party and his significant contributions to its growth.

This endorsement comes at a time when political discussions have been stirred by dissent from some individuals reportedly linked to the NDC, particularly regarding Mr. Sarpong’s appointment and that of Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko as the Acting CEO of the National Communications Authority (NCA).

The Committee highlighted Mr. Sarpong’s longstanding commitment to the NDC since 2012, noting his vital role in enhancing the party’s financial base and his grassroots mobilization efforts that have notably strengthened the NDC’s presence in the region.

“Mr. Sarpong’s notable contributions span across Upper Denkyira East and West. His instrumental role in contributing towards the party financially is particularly commendable and has left a lasting impact on the party’s operations”.

According to the Committee, Mr. Sarpong’s appointment reflects President Mahama’s dedication to acknowledging and rewarding loyal party members who have worked diligently to advance the party and the nation.

The Central Region leadership praised this decision, viewing it as a strategic and thoughtful acknowledgement of Mr. Sarpong’s hard work and commitment.

In a further show of confidence in Mr. Sarpong’s abilities, the Regional Functional Executives Committee has committed to providing ongoing support as he takes on the responsibilities of the GRA CEO.

This endorsement not only highlights the trust placed in Mr. Sarpong but also reinforces the Central Region’s NDC commitment to the party’s and nation’s broader goals.

While the appointments of both Mr. Sarpong and Mr. Fianko have sparked controversy within certain factions of the NDC, the Central Region’s endorsement serves as a testament to the positive reception of these appointments by key party figures in the area.

The full statement from the Committee, signed by Professor Asiedu, concluded with a call for unity and collaboration as the NDC strives for a brighter future for Ghana, emphasizing the contributions of dedicated individuals like Mr. Sarpong.

As the political discourse surrounding these appointments continues, the Central Region’s support for Mr. Sarpong acts as a crucial counterpoint to any opposition, underscoring the party’s focus on rewarding loyalty and competence in leadership positions.
