Former IGP Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare

Former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has extended his gratitude to Ghanaians, the government, and the Ghana Police Service following his official removal from office.

In a heartfelt statement issued on March 14, 2025, Dr. Dampare expressed appreciation for the prayers, blessings, and unwavering support he received from the public throughout his tenure.

He acknowledged the overwhelming outpouring of goodwill, especially in the 24 hours after the announcement of his replacement.

“I wish to express my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the former President, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for giving me the opportunity to serve our nation as the Inspector-General of Police and for making history as the youngest IGP in the 4th Republic.”

Dr. Dampare also extended his gratitude to President John Mahama, emphasizing the cordial working relationship they shared during the short period before his exit.

He underscored the importance of leadership continuity in the police service and recognized Ghana’s leaders for their roles in maintaining stability.

He further acknowledged religious and traditional leaders for their prayers, guidance, and wisdom, describing their insights as “indispensable” to his leadership.

Additionally, he commended sister security agencies for their cooperation in ensuring national security and stability.

Acknowledgement to Civil Society and Diplomatic Support

Furthermore, Dr. Dampare expressed appreciation to civil society organizations for their advocacy and constructive engagement, which contributed to improvements within the police service.

He highlighted their role in shaping some of the critical reforms implemented during his tenure.

“I am particularly grateful for the opportunity to serve the Ghana Police Service for the past 35 years, rising in rank from a General Constable to Inspector-General of Police, being the youngest Commissioner of Police as well as the youngest IGP in the 4th Republic.”

The former Inspector General of Police further expressed deep appreciation to the international community and diplomatic missions for their consistent support and collaboration.

He acknowledged that their contributions, through strategic partnerships, expert consultations, and capacity-building initiatives, had played a crucial role in refining policing strategies.

These external engagements, he noted, had not only strengthened Ghana’s security operations but also helped align the country’s law enforcement practices with global standards.

Recognition for The Ghana Police Service

Dr. Dampare expressed profound gratitude to the Police Management Board (POMAB) and officers across all ranks of the Ghana Police Service.

He praised the dedication and professionalism of police officers, emphasizing their role in ensuring public safety.

He acknowledged their sacrifices and unwavering commitment to duty, stating that their hard work formed the backbone of Ghana’s security architecture.

Despite his departure, Dr. Dampare reaffirmed his dedication to national service, assuring Ghanaians that his commitment to the country remained unshaken.

“I have served the Ghana Police Service for 35 out of my nearly 55 years of life with an unblemished record. I remain energetic, committed, and enthusiastic about serving my nation with discipline, honor, and integrity.”

Dr. George Akuffo Dampare

Dr. Dampare’s departure signals the close of a defining chapter in Ghana’s law enforcement history, but his impact on the Ghana Police Service remains profound.

Throughout his tenure, he spearheaded key reforms, strengthened institutional professionalism, and enhanced public confidence in policing.

As he transitions from his official role, his contributions to law enforcement and national security continue to be recognized by security experts, policymakers, and the general public.

His leadership, as many have pointed out, has left a lasting imprint, shaping the trajectory of the service for years to come.
