Sarpong Slams Deputy AG Over ‘Misinformation’

Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, Deputy Attorney General

NPP stalwart Patrick Kwarteng Sarpong has called out Deputy Attorney General Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, accusing him of spreading misinformation regarding the controversial ‘raid’ on former Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor Dr. Ernest Addison’s residence.

The search of the house of the former BoG governor was carried out by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) under the leadership of Richard Jakpa.

Sarpong condemned Srem-Sai’s statements, asserting that they were factually inaccurate and misleading.

He described the Deputy AG’s narrative as a deliberate distortion of the truth, cautioning him to refrain from peddling falsehoods about the incident.

“It is shocking that you have decided to propagate this falsehood when the facts are completely poles apart from your invented rendition.”

According to Sarpong, Jakpa’s team did not merely enter Dr. Addison’s premises for information gathering but had a specific demand from the moment they arrived.

“Do you know the first question Jakpa asked Dr. Addison upon their entry into his house? Richard Jakpa asked Addison to show him the vault where the money was being kept, and once he did that, they’d let things be quiet and slide.”

Patrick Kwarteng Sarpong

He revealed that Dr. Addison strongly refuted claims of having a vault in his house.

Despite this, Jakpa and his team continued their search, thoroughly inspecting every room.

Sarpong also noted that they specifically requested access to his CCTV monitor, which was subsequently shown to them.

Search Warrant Controversy

Furthermore, Patrick Sarpong stressed that the raid did not follow the appropriate legal protocols.

He argued that Dr. Addison’s rights were disregarded, particularly his right to legal representation during the search.

According to Sarpong, despite Dr. Addison’s repeated requests to have his lawyers present, the authorities conducting the raid refused to grant him that opportunity.

He maintained that such actions raised serious concerns about due process and the legality of the operation. “He (Jakpa) said he was in possession of the search warrant but never showed it to him even though Addison insisted on it.”

Sarpong highlighted the glaring inconsistencies surrounding the legality of the operation, raising serious concerns about its legitimacy.

He questioned the need for high-level intervention if the raid had been conducted lawfully and in accordance with due process.

He specifically pointed out that if the operation had been legitimate, there would have been no reason for the National Security Coordinator to personally step in and issue an apology to Dr. Addison.

“If the Jakpa-led team was truly on a lawful mission, why did Jakpa find it necessary to call the National Security Coordinator, who then requested to speak with Dr. Addison?”

He further revealed that the National Security Coordinator went as far as offering an apology to Dr. Addison for the incident, a move that, in his view, only deepens suspicions about the true nature of the operation.

False Claims and Stolen Items

Sarpong firmly rejected claims that Dr. Addison had connected his personal phone to CCTV cameras at the Bank of Ghana to monitor internal activities.

He dismissed these allegations as baseless and a desperate attempt to justify what he described as an unlawful intrusion into Addison’s private residence.

He argued that such accusations were deliberately manufactured to create suspicion and provide a false pretext for the raid.

He insisted that such misleading claims were part of a broader strategy to tarnish Addison’s reputation and divert attention from the real issues surrounding the legality of the search.

“You stormed his house thinking that he had some huge sums of money stashed away in some vaults, and when you found no such evidence, you went out there to tell lies about him.”

Patrick Kwarteng Sarpong

Sarpong further alleged that valuables, including the earrings and necklaces of Dr. Addison’s wife, as well as GH¢10,000 in cash, were stolen by the NIB operatives.

He insisted that the former Governor had never denied the theft and criticized any attempts to downplay the incident.

He warned that misinforming the public about the issue was not only dishonest but also an attempt to divert attention from the real issues at stake. “If you have nothing better to write about on social media, then stop disturbing us with such needless posts.”

Meanwhile, the government has maintained that the search was conducted lawfully, reinforcing its commitment to due process and national security.

Ensuring public confidence in such operations requires clear communication and adherence to legal procedures at all times.
