Nuong Faalong Alleges Massive Corruption Under Previous Administration

Nuong Faalong, Corruption, Public, Attorney General

Nuong Faalong, NDC Communications Team Member

Ghana has lost money. The country is bleeding. According to Nuong Faalong, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communications team, the level of corruption under the previous administration was beyond anything the country had witnessed before.

She insisted that as more audits are conducted, additional layers of financial misconduct will be exposed. For her, ignoring the crimes of the past is not an option.

“The kind of corruption that went on in the previous administration was obscene, and it is being revealed as time goes on”

Nuong Faalong, NDC Communications Team Member

While some critics have urged the government to focus on governance rather than pursuing alleged wrongdoers, Faalong believes both can be done simultaneously. In her view, stabilizing the economy is necessary, but so is uncovering the root cause of its problems.

“Yes, first, you stop the bleeding, but you also have to find out what caused the bleeding, and that is what the minister is doing.”

However, the question remains: if these allegations are indeed true, why have they not been proven in court?

No formal conviction has been secured, and the legal process remains ongoing. Some have argued that the government is conducting a trial by media, making accusations without the necessary legal backing.

Faalong rejected that notion, stating that the facts will eventually lead to convictions. She questioned why some people are uncomfortable with the public being informed about these cases.

“The public requires information. And we are going to court. When we go to court, you will see these things. When Ato Forson was being tried, they were all over the media with it. It became a spectacle. These are the same people telling us not to give the public information, really”

Nuong Faalong, NDC Communications Team Member

She recalled the case against the now Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, a high-profile legal battle that was widely discussed in the media.

“We all knew why he was being tried. The honorable Ato Forson’s trial was all over the place. We knew the reasons why. We had updates about the case. We saw it play out. We saw him even accused, you know, we even saw the former attorney general scheme to literally get him indicted. What came or became of it at the end of the day?”

Nuong Faalong, NDC Communications Team Member

For Faalong, the current Attorney General is handling things differently. She described him as a “learned and professional,” individual who is sticking to the facts rather than attempting to manipulate the legal process.

She argued that the government has an obligation to keep the public informed, and that is exactly what it is doing.

“Ghanaians have asked, ‘give us reasons why you are arresting our people.’ We’ve given them the information. We are a very accountable government.

“Once they ask, you give them the information and let them decide for themselves if the person is guilty. The attorney general has not pronounced anyone guilty. He can’t do that”

The Attorney General Will Deliver

The NDC has made a firm commitment to the people of Ghana. It has vowed to hold accountable all those who allegedly plundered state resources. For Faalong, this is not just about justice, it is about credibility on the international stage.

“We cannot come and ignore all the people who stole. The money that has been stolen is more than the money that we are going to beg for from these countries”

Nuong Faalong, NDC Communications Team Member

She argued that Ghana’s struggle with international financial institutions is partly because of its failure to curb corruption. If state resources were managed properly, the country would not need to seek external financial assistance so frequently.

“Do you think they take us seriously?” She asked about Ghana’s standing with international financial institutions.

She commended the Attorney General for taking up this fight despite the pressure surrounding his office. In her view, he has begun on a strong note and will ultimately deliver justice.

“So I am completely on the side of the attorney general. He’s a man under pressure, but he’s a man who will deliver”

Nuong Faalong, NDC Communications Team Member

She warned all who are complicit in the corruption that has plagued the country over the last eight years expect accountability’s knock on their doors soon.

For her, the legal system is now being used as a powerful tool to root out corruption, impunity and mismanagement of public funds.

“ORAL is the fumigant that will flush out every serpent of corruption, so be ready for it. It’s coming for you,” she concluded.
