Ghana's economic reset is on an upward trend

As Ghana’s economy shows signs of recovery, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Shamima Muslim has delivered a passionate call for unity, urging all citizens to stand together in support of President John Dramani Mahama’s leadership and vision.

Speaking on behalf of the government, she emphasized that the road to lasting prosperity requires collaboration, patience, and shared sacrifice.

In a statement Muslim addressed labor unions, public sector workers, and the wider Ghanaian public, acknowledging the legitimacy of workers’ demands for improved conditions, stating, “Dear Labour, any demand for better working conditions is a legitimate one.”

Muslim recounted the events earlier in the year when President Mahama appealed to labor unions for understanding during difficult economic circumstances.

“Earlier this year, President John Dramani Mahama appealed to Labour to accept a 10% increase in base pay. You did, with understanding. That sacrifice is deeply appreciated.

Reflecting on the administration’s efforts, Muslim highlighted President Mahama’s ongoing commitment to ethical leadership, transparency, and responsible governance.

“He assured us all he would lead a lean and efficient government guided by prudence in the use of public resources and the right governance framework and values. He committed to holding his appointees to the highest ethical standards.”

She explained that the President committed to standing by the people during the most challenging times, with a pledge to stabilize the economy, create employment opportunities, strengthen accountability, and ensure shared prosperity for everyone — and he is actively fulfilling that commitment.

Calls For Patience, Cooperation Amid Challenges

Furthermore, Shamima Muslim highlighted clear indicators of Ghana’s economic recovery, mentioning the strengthening of the Cedi, a steady decline in inflation, and the increase in foreign exchange reserves resulting from the Gold Purchase program.

She noted that these improvements have also elevated Ghana’s reputation and standing on the international stage.

She emphasized that these accomplishments were only possible through collective effort and a spirit of optimism. “And guess what, we achieved this together — with collaboration and positivity.”

However, Muslim openly acknowledged that despite the encouraging signs of economic recovery, significant obstacles continue to confront the nation.

She emphasized that many of these pressing issues — spanning various sectors — cannot be resolved without the necessary financial resources, highlighting the critical need for sustainable revenue generation and prudent fiscal management to effectively tackle these challenges.

“Problems with the labour front, problems in the Energy front, and problems in the debilitating debts front. PROBLEMS that MONEY can solve, most, not all.

“MONEY, we must generate through prudence, productivity, innovations, creativity, through a sharing of the burden. Money we must recover from stolen loot, leakages, and inefficiencies with the inherited porous system.”

Addressing nurses, midwives, and university lecturers, she recognized the legitimacy of their concerns but urged them to have confidence in the President’s leadership.

She called on them to show patience and allow the administration some space to build on the progress already made, assuring them that the President remains committed to easing their burdens and has given no reason to doubt his intentions.

Citizens Called To Support Economy With Calm

Additionally, Shamima Muslim cautioned against engaging in premature confrontations that could destabilize the still-fragile economy, which is in the process of recovering from previous severe setbacks.

She stressed that if the economy were to falter again, it would have damaging consequences for everyone — including the government, workers, and the general population — all of whom have only recently emerged from difficult years.

“But if we work together, we will win together. If we work together in good faith, respect, and integrity, there is no wave we cannot ride.

“So again, dear nurses and midwives, kindly return to work and let the negotiations continue. May God grant us all a heart of love and understanding, and protect us from destroying ourselves to the glee of the enemy.”

Shamima Muslim

As Ghana’s economy steadily gains momentum, the government continues to emphasize that national progress depends on collective effort.

It underscores that unity, patience, and a spirit of cooperation among all stakeholders are essential for sustaining growth, overcoming remaining challenges, and ultimately securing a stronger and more prosperous future for every citizen.
