When Dr. Ntakra Ohene was told that his cancer treatment might leave him infertile—and possibly strip him of his “manhood”—he did not just confront a medical prognosis; he stood at the crossroads of his identity.

His experience is far from unique. Across Ghana and beyond, prostate cancer treatments often come with sexual side effects—erectile dysfunction, diminished desire, and concerns about masculinity—that are rarely discussed in public.

Dr. Ohene’s courage in sharing his fears sheds light on a vital truth: true cancer care must heal more than just the body. It must preserve the dignity, intimacy, and resilience of the whole person.

A Ghanaian resident in Reading, United Kingdom, Dr. Ntakra Ohene, has shared a deeply emotional account of his ongoing cancer battle in an exclusive interview.

According to Dr. Ohene, his ordeal began when he discovered unusual lumps around his neck while taking a shower.

Initially dismissing it as a minor health concern, further medical checks revealed the devastating news that he was suffering from high-grade Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a severe form of cancer.

Recounting his consultation with a hematologist, Dr. Ohene revealed that he was presented with two heartbreaking options.

The first was to undergo chemotherapy, which came with the possibility of infertility, low sperm count, and the risk of permanent sexual dysfunction.

The second option, refusing treatment, meant waiting patiently for death.

The father of four admitted that the diagnosis took a heavy toll on him. “When I got home after hearing the doctor’s words, I drank heavily and went to bed,” he said.

However, after reflecting and speaking with his children the following day, he resolved to undergo chemotherapy to fight for his life.

Sharing a chilling moment from his first day of treatment, Dr. Ohene recalled how a woman seated beside him in the hospital tragically died before receiving her therapy.

Despite the challenges, Dr. Ohene continues to battle the illness with courage, drawing strength from his family and faith.

His story has since touched many Ghanaians online, who have praised him for his resilience and honesty in sharing his journey.

The famed Ghanaian TikToker emotionally revealed how he was severely slammed the first time he shared his cancer journey on social media.

Dr. Ntakra Ohene recounted how he was insulted by social media users for sharing his cancer journey.

According to him, his critics insulted and insisted he should seek medical attention rather than share his journey on social media. According to him, it was through TikTok that he met the late Osanju.

Dr Ntakra Ohene explained that Osanju reached out to him shortly after he publicly disclosed his own battle with cancer. “When I first spoke about my condition, many people insulted me,” he recalled. “Osanju kept messaging me, and by the third time, I finally responded.”

During that initial exchange, Osanju confided that he had been struggling with leukemia since birth. According to Dr. Ntakra Ohene, Osanju admitted he feared speaking openly about the illness because of how others might judge him.

“I encouraged him to share his truth,” he said, emphasizing the importance of honesty and support in fighting stigma.

He further recounted sending money to Osanju to help purchase medication, describing their conversations as deeply personal. “Though some advised me not to say this, I know my life could end any day,” he admitted, reflecting on his own fragile health.

Dr. Ntakra Ohene’s revelation isn’t just about pain—it’s a prompt for empathy and action. Sharing a cancer journey online is both brave and risky.

It’s the responsibility—as communities, caregivers, and platforms—to protect the storytellers and cherish their voices.
