Ecobank Ghana Empowers the Next Generation Through Digital Inclusion

Ecobank Ghana has once again reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive education and digital empowerment by commissioning two ultra-modern Digital Learning Centres for selected schools in the country.

The initiative forms part of the 2025 Ecobank Day celebration, a flagship social impact programme led by the Ecobank Foundation across all 33 countries where the bank operates.

The beneficiary institutions — Tetteh Ocloo School for the Deaf in the Greater Accra Region and Bishop Sam Memorial Basic School in Takoradi, Western Region — are the latest to receive the bank’s transformative educational support. The facilities, fully equipped with 26 computers, modern furniture, a projector, inverter, and three years of free internet connectivity, are expected to bridge the technological gap in underserved schools and empower students with 21st-century skills.

Speaking at the official commissioning ceremony, Mrs. Abena Osei-Poku, Managing Director of Ecobank Ghana, emphasized that the initiative aligns with this year’s Ecobank Day theme, “Enabling Inclusive Learning for All.” She noted that the project was designed to ensure that no child is left behind in the digital transformation journey, particularly those with hearing or visual impairments.

“Our partners from Ghana Code Club have graciously agreed to facilitate train-the-trainer workshops for both tutors and students for an initial period of six months, focusing on web development, animation, robotics, and artificial intelligence, among others.”

She further revealed that Ecobank Ghana is working to complete and commission four Garrison Educational Centres in Kumasi before the end of the year, in addition to breaking ground for a similar centre at the Methodist School for the Blind in Wa, Upper West Region. Upon completion, these projects will bring to six the total number of Digital Learning Centres commissioned by Ecobank Ghana between 2023 and 2025.

Partnerships Driving Innovation and Impact

The Ecobank Foundation’s partnership with the Ghana Code Club has been pivotal in achieving the bank’s educational goals. The collaboration is not only equipping students with technological skills but also introducing them to assistive technologies that make learning more inclusive.

“This year in particular, they are helping to make the use of assistive technologies possible, ensuring inclusive education is a reality for our future leaders with hearing or visual impairment. Thank you very much, Ghana Code Club.”

On her part, Mrs. Ernestina Appiah, Founder and CEO of Ghana Code Club, described the initiative as a life-changing intervention for young learners.

“The impact of these centres goes far beyond computer skills. They will nurture a generation of young innovators and problem solvers who can apply technology to address real-life challenges — from community development to entrepreneurship.”

For many of the students and teachers at the Tetteh Ocloo School for the Deaf and Bishop Sam Memorial Basic School, the new Digital Learning Centres represent a new dawn. The facilities provide not only a conducive environment for learning but also a gateway to explore the world of technology in an interactive and engaging way.

The Headmaster of the Tetteh Ocloo School for the Deaf, Mr. Isaac Arthur, expressed profound gratitude to Ecobank Ghana for the intervention, stating that the centre will significantly enhance the educational experience of his students.

“This ICT centre will transform the educational journey of our students. Many of them have had limited access to digital tools, but with this facility, they can now learn coding, graphic design, and other essential ICT skills that will prepare them for future opportunities.”

Ecobank Day

The Ecobank Day is a Group-wide initiative designed to empower communities across Africa by addressing social challenges and fostering development. Over the years, the programme has focused on various themes — from health and financial literacy to education and youth empowerment.

In Ghana, Ecobank has made remarkable strides in supporting children’s education, particularly in deprived areas. Between 2023 and 2025, the bank has refurbished and equipped ICT laboratories in six schools, converting them into vibrant Digital Learning Centres.

The list of beneficiary institutions includes:

  • Potters Village Orphanage – Dodowa (2023–2024)
  • South Labone Girls Technical Institute – Accra (2023–2024)
  • Bishop Sam Memorial Basic School – Takoradi (2024–2025)
  • 4 Garrison School – Kumasi (2024–2025)
  • Tetteh Ocloo School for the Deaf – Adjei Kojo (2025)
  • Methodist School for the Blind – Wa (2025)

Through these projects, Ecobank is empowering children to embrace technology as a tool for creativity, problem-solving, and global competitiveness.

Ecobank Ghana’s consistent investment in education reflects a broader vision — one that seeks to bridge the digital divide and provide all children, regardless of background or disability, an equal opportunity to thrive in the modern world. By providing free internet access, renewable energy support, and continuous digital skills training, the bank is ensuring that its social interventions deliver lasting impact.
