Staff Celebrate Sarpong’s One-Year Milestone

Edward Ato Sarpong, Managing Director of ADB.

The Agricultural Development Bank PLC has marked a significant milestone as staff celebrated the one-year anniversary of Edward Ato Sarpong’s appointment as Managing Director.

The occasion was not only a reflection on leadership but also a celebration of transformation, growth, and renewed ambition within one of Ghana’s leading indigenous banks.

The anniversary coincided with the Bank’s annual thanksgiving service, a tradition that brings staff together in gratitude for the year gone by and in prayer for the year ahead.

This year’s service carried added meaning as it provided an opportunity for employees to acknowledge the leadership that has guided ADB through a remarkable turnaround over the past twelve months.

A Moment of Gratitude and Reflection

The thanksgiving service was dedicated to expressing appreciation to God for a successful 2025 and seeking divine grace for 2026. Beyond the spiritual observance, the event became a platform for staff to publicly express their gratitude to management and, in particular, to Mr. Edward Ato Sarpong.

In a heartfelt message, staff thanked Mr. Ato Sarpong for his vision and dedication, saying, “We thank God for you, Sir, and we pray that the good Lord continues to grant you good health as you lead ADB towards achieving our new strategic vision.”

The message captured the sentiment shared across the Bank. Employees described the past year as one of renewed confidence and clarity of purpose. Under Mr. Sarpong’s leadership, ADB has sharpened its focus and repositioned itself towards its strategic ambition of becoming one of the top three leading banks in Ghana.

Leadership That Inspires Confidence

The Managing Director’s leadership style has earned praise from both management and staff. Mohammed Ali, Head of Marketing and Communications, highlighted the personal qualities that have defined Mr. Sarpong’s first year in office.

“He’s a leader who motivates and inspires confidence among employees,” Mr. Ali said.

This emphasis on motivation and confidence has been central to ADB’s internal culture over the past year. Staff members have pointed to improved communication, a shared sense of direction, and a strong commitment to performance excellence as key features of the new leadership approach.

Mr. Sarpong’s professional background has also contributed to the Bank’s renewed momentum. He brings extensive experience in business and leadership, having previously served as Managing Director of Africaonline and Chief Operating Officer of K-Net. He also served as Deputy Minister of Communications between July 2014 and January 2017 under the administration of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana.

This blend of corporate and public sector experience has equipped him with strategic insight and operational discipline, qualities that have been evident in ADB’s recent performance.

Strong Financial Performance in 2025

The celebration of Mr. Sarpong’s one-year anniversary was backed by tangible results. ADB’s third quarter 2025 financial performance reflected a dramatic improvement across key indicators.

Profit before tax surged to GH¢447.49 million in Q3 2025, representing a remarkable 153.66 percent growth compared to GH¢176.41 million recorded during the same period in 2024. This strong growth underscores the success of strategic initiatives implemented under the current leadership.

The Bank also demonstrated robust liquidity, recording a liquid ratio of 130 percent in the third quarter of 2025. This figure stands well above the regulatory threshold, signaling financial stability and prudent risk management.

ADB’s balance sheet expansion further reinforced the narrative of progress. Total assets grew by 17 percent, rising from GH¢13.87 billion in September 2024 to GH¢16.22 billion as of September 2025. The growth was driven by strong performance in investment securities and deposits, reflecting increased investor and customer confidence.

Net investment securities rose significantly to GH¢6.45 billion from GH¢4.71 billion in the same period last year. Other performance indicators also recorded upward trends, painting a picture of a Bank on a steady growth trajectory.

Pursuit of a Bold Strategic Vision

While the first year under Mr. Sarpong has delivered impressive results, the Bank’s leadership is focused on sustaining the momentum. ADB is pursuing a strategic vision of becoming one of the top three leading banks in Ghana and positioning itself as a globally admired institution for its people, processes, and performance.

The Bank is expected to publish its 2025 end-of-year financial results by the end of March 2026. Stakeholders are optimistic that the full-year numbers will further confirm the strength of the turnaround strategy.

For staff, the anniversary celebration was not merely about marking time. It was a reaffirmation of collective commitment. Employees expressed confidence that with continued discipline, innovation, and teamwork, ADB will achieve its strategic goals.

A Year of Transformation

The atmosphere at the celebration reflected pride and optimism. Staff members acknowledged that the past year has been transformative for the institution. From strengthened financial performance to improved internal morale, ADB appears to have regained its competitive edge within Ghana’s banking sector.

As the Bank looks ahead to 2026, the message from staff remains clear. Leadership matters, and in their view, Edward Ato Sarpong’s first year has set a solid foundation for the future.

With strong financial indicators, motivated employees, and a bold strategic agenda, ADB’s journey toward becoming one of Ghana’s top three banks appears firmly on course.
