The National Democratic Congress has extended warm Ramadan wishes to Muslims in Ghana and across the world, calling on the holy month to inspire unity, compassion, and renewed national commitment to justice and inclusiveness.

The message, issued by the party’s National Secretariat, acknowledges the spiritual significance of Ramadan and the enduring role of the Muslim community in Ghana’s democratic and socio-economic development.

In its statement, the NDC described Ramadan as a sacred period marked by fasting, prayer, reflection, sacrifice, and deepened devotion to Allah. According to the party, the holy month goes beyond personal spirituality and offers broader lessons for society, particularly the values of humility, generosity, discipline, and peaceful coexistence.

These principles, the statement noted, remain essential to strengthening national unity and fostering sustainable development in a diverse society such as Ghana. The opposition party used the occasion to recognise the long-standing contributions of Muslims to Ghana’s democratic journey.

It noted that Muslim communities have played critical roles in social cohesion, economic activity, and civic engagement, often serving as anchors of peace and stability in both urban and rural settings.

The NDC expressed appreciation for the continuous prayers and moral support offered by the Muslim Ummah toward national peace, stability, and prosperity, describing such efforts as invaluable to the country’s progress.

The statement further framed Ramadan as an opportunity for collective national reflection. It suggested that the period should renew commitment not only to faith but also to shared ideals of justice, inclusiveness, and compassion.

In the party’s view, these values are particularly relevant at a time when Ghana, like many countries, faces social and economic pressures that require dialogue, empathy, and responsible leadership.

Prayer of Strength and Blessings

Addressing Muslims directly, the NDC offered prayers for strength, good health, and abundant blessings throughout the fasting period. It expressed hope that the month would be spiritually rewarding and would deepen solidarity among Ghanaians of different religious and ethnic backgrounds.

The party emphasised that peaceful coexistence remains a cornerstone of Ghana’s democratic identity and a key driver of national development. Beyond the spiritual message, the NDC reiterated its political commitment to equality and opportunity for all citizens.

Commitment to Reset Agenda

The statement reaffirmed the party’s resolve to champion policies and programmes that improve livelihoods regardless of religious or ethnic affiliation as envisaged in the Mahama’s administration Reset Agenda.

According to the NDC, inclusive governance and equitable access to opportunities are central to building a more compassionate and united Ghana, ideals that align closely with the moral lessons of Ramadan.

The message was signed by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, who underscored the importance of national solidarity during significant religious observances.

While the statement did not reference specific policy proposals, its tone reflected the party’s broader emphasis on social justice, national cohesion, and participatory democracy.

Religious goodwill messages have become a common feature of Ghana’s political culture, reflecting the country’s reputation for religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

Political parties often use such occasions to connect with faith communities while reinforcing messages of unity and shared responsibility. In this context, the NDC’s Ramadan message aligns with a long tradition of cross religious engagement in Ghanaian public life.

As Muslims across the country begin the fasting period, the party concluded by wishing the entire Muslim Ummah a peaceful, rewarding, and blessed Ramadan. The message closed with the greeting “Ramadan Mubarak,” reinforcing a tone of respect and solidarity.

The statement adds to ongoing national conversations about faith, citizenship, and development, highlighting how religious observances can serve as moments of reflection not only for believers but for the wider society.

For the NDC, Ramadan is presented as both a spiritual journey and a reminder of the shared values needed to advance justice, inclusiveness, and unity in Ghana.
