A new nationwide opinion poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics indicates broad public support for recent decisions by the Chief Justice to halt impeachment and removal processes involving key constitutional office holders.
According to the findings, a plurality of voters back the determination that there was no case to answer against the Special Prosecutor and the leadership of the Electoral Commission, reflecting growing public confidence in judicial restraint and due process.
On the decision relating to the Special Prosecutor, the poll shows that 48 percent of voters agree with the Chief Justice’s conclusion not to proceed with impeachment proceedings against Kissi Agyebeng.
Twenty seven percent of respondents disagreed with the decision, while 25 percent said they had no opinion. The data suggests that nearly half of the electorate accepts the judicial assessment that the petitions did not meet the threshold required to trigger further action.
Party Lines Reveal Cross Partisan Consensus
The survey results show notable agreement across party affiliations, countering claims that the decisions were driven by partisan considerations. Among supporters of the New Patriotic Party, 43 percent expressed agreement with the Chief Justice’s ruling on the Special Prosecutor.
Support was even stronger among National Democratic Congress voters, where 61 percent backed the decision. Floating voters also showed significant approval, with 47 percent agreeing that the matter should not proceed.
Analysts say this cross partisan alignment points to a broader public preference for stability in governance and adherence to constitutional procedures.

Electoral Commission Leadership Also Cleared
Public opinion followed a similar pattern regarding petitions submitted to the President seeking the removal of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, and her deputy, Dr Bossman Asare.
According to the poll, 47 percent of voters agree with the Chief Justice’s determination that there was no justification to proceed with removal proceedings against the two officials. Thirty percent of respondents disagreed, while 23 percent indicated they had no opinion.
The Chief Justice’s decision effectively brought an end to a highly charged political debate over the leadership of the Electoral Commission, an institution that plays a central role in Ghana’s democratic system.
The poll suggests that while public opinion remains divided, a clear plurality accepts the judicial conclusion that the petitions did not establish sufficient grounds for removal.
Support Cuts Across Political Affiliations
As with the Special Prosecutor decision, voter responses on the Electoral Commission matter reveal support across party lines. Among NPP voters, 39 percent agreed with the Chief Justice’s ruling.
Support was stronger among NDC voters, with 59 percent backing the decision, despite public opposition expressed by some party leaders. Floating voters again aligned with the broader trend, as 48 percent supported the outcome.
Observers say this pattern highlights a disconnect between elite political rhetoric and voter sentiment. While party leaders often frame such institutional disputes in adversarial terms, the electorate appears more measured, favoring constitutional closure over prolonged political battles.

By declining to advance petitions that failed to meet required standards, the Chief Justice reinforced the principle that impeachment and removal processes must be grounded in clear evidence rather than political pressure.

While a sizable minority of voters remain dissatisfied with the decisions, the overall picture that emerges is one of cautious public endorsement of constitutional safeguards.
