The Ghana Police Service has announced extensive security arrangements ahead of this year’s Easter celebrations, assuring the public of a safe and peaceful festive period across the country.

In a press release issued by the Public Affairs Directorate on April 2, 2026, the Service outlined a series of coordinated measures designed to maintain law and order and prevent incidents during one of Ghana’s busiest holiday seasons.

According to the statement, police personnel have been strategically deployed to key locations nationwide, particularly in areas expected to witness large gatherings. These include recreational centres, event grounds, tourist destinations, and other public spaces where increased human activity is anticipated.

The Service emphasized that the deployment is part of a broader effort to ensure that citizens and visitors can celebrate Easter without fear, highlighting its commitment to proactive policing and public safety.

Focus on Kwahu and High Traffic Zones

Special attention has been given to the Kwahu enclave, a major hub for Easter festivities in Ghana. Known for its vibrant celebrations and influx of visitors, the area is expected to experience significant crowd and traffic volumes.

To manage this, the Police Service has positioned officers at strategic points within the enclave and surrounding areas. This includes increased visibility at popular event venues and along key access routes.

In addition to static deployments, operational teams have been assigned to patrol major highways leading to and from Kwahu. These patrols are intended to deter criminal activity while ensuring a rapid response to emergencies.

Motor traffic and transport personnel have also been deployed to regulate vehicular movement and minimize congestion. The aim is to facilitate smoother travel for motorists while reducing the risk of road accidents during the peak travel period.

Enhanced Patrols and Intelligence Operations

Beyond physical deployment, the Police Service has intensified its patrol operations nationwide. These include both routine and targeted patrols in urban and rural areas, with a focus on locations that typically experience heightened activity during festive periods.

The Service has also activated intelligence led operations to identify and neutralize potential security threats. This approach allows law enforcement to respond swiftly to emerging situations and maintain control over public spaces.

The statement noted that these intelligence efforts are being carried out discreetly but effectively, forming a critical component of the overall security strategy.

By combining visible policing with behind the scenes intelligence work, the Ghana Police Service aims to create a comprehensive security environment that discourages wrongdoing and reassures the public.

Public Cooperation Key to Success

While outlining its preparedness, the Police Service called on the public to play an active role in ensuring a safe Easter celebration. Citizens have been urged to remain vigilant and cooperate fully with security personnel throughout the festive period.

Motorists, in particular, have been advised to adhere strictly to road traffic regulations. The Service cautioned against excessive speeding, reckless driving, and driving under the influence of alcohol, all of which contribute significantly to road accidents.

Drivers have also been encouraged to follow directions from police officers and road safety officials, especially in areas experiencing heavy traffic.

In addition, members of the public have been reminded to take personal responsibility for their safety. This includes safeguarding personal belongings and being alert to their surroundings, particularly in crowded places.

The Police Service further urged individuals to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or officer. Prompt reporting, it noted, can help prevent potential incidents and enhance overall security.

Commitment to Peaceful Festivities

The statement, signed by Grace Ansah-Akrofi, reaffirmed the Ghana Police Service’s dedication to maintaining law and order throughout the Easter period.

She assured the public that all necessary resources have been mobilized to support the operation, including personnel, logistics, and communication systems.

The Service also reiterated its readiness to respond to emergencies and provide assistance wherever needed, emphasizing that the safety of citizens remains its top priority.

As part of its outreach, the Police Service extended well wishes to the public, encouraging everyone to celebrate responsibly and enjoy the holiday season.

A Coordinated Approach to National Security

The Easter security arrangements reflect a coordinated approach to policing that combines manpower deployment, traffic management, and intelligence gathering. This integrated strategy is aimed at addressing the unique challenges associated with large scale public celebrations.

By focusing on high risk areas and ensuring continuous monitoring, the Police Service seeks to prevent incidents before they occur rather than reacting after the fact.

The emphasis on Kwahu and other popular destinations highlights the Service’s understanding of seasonal patterns and its ability to adapt its operations accordingly.

As the Easter festivities approach, the effectiveness of these measures will depend not only on the preparedness of the Police Service but also on the cooperation of the public.

With heightened security presence and clear safety guidelines in place, authorities remain optimistic that this year’s celebrations will be peaceful and incident free.
