The balance of power in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals has shifted firmly in favour of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Atlético Madrid, after both sides claimed convincing first-leg victories to put one foot in the semi-finals.
At the Parc des Princes, PSG imposed themselves on Liverpool FC with a composed 2-0 win. Désiré Doué set the tone early, his deflected effort looping beyond the reach of Giorgi Mamardashvili to hand the hosts control of the contest.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia then underlined PSG’s authority in the second half, weaving past the Liverpool backline and goalkeeper before calmly finishing into an empty net to double the advantage.
Despite the daunting trip ahead to Mersyside, Kvaratskhelia made it clear PSG have no intention of easing up at Anfield.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia
“We’re going to play at Anfield, in an incredible atmosphere.”
Attention now turns to next Tuesday’s decisive return leg in Liverpool, where PSG will aim to finish the job and keep their title defence on track.
Atleti End Barca’s Camp Nou Return Invincibility

In Spain, Atlético Madrid delivered arguably the bigger statement, silencing the Camp Nou with a 2-0 win over FC Barcelona, marking the Blaugrana’s first defeat at home since returning to the renovated Camp Nou in November of last year.
Julián Álvarez broke the deadlock with a superb free-kick, before Alexander Sørloth struck late to give Diego Simeone’s side a commanding cushion to take back to Madrid.
Barcelona’s task was made significantly harder before the break when Pau Cubarsí was dismissed for denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity after bringing down Giovanni Simeone. Álvarez capitalised immediately, converting the resulting free-kick.
After the match, Barcelona boss Hansi Flick questioned both the sending-off and other key decisions that went against his side.
Hansi Flick
“I’m not sure it was a red card to Pau Cubarsí.”
He also pointed to a missed penalty call and a separate incident he believed warranted a second yellow card.
Hansi Flick
“There was a clear penalty and a second yellow card for Atlético. What’s the point of VAR if it’s there in the first place? I just can’t understand that.”
With both ties now leaning heavily in favour of PSG and Atlético, the pressure shifts to Liverpool and Barcelona to produce something special in the second legs.
