Tottenham Hotspur have been hit with another major setback as forward, Mohammed Kudus, has suffered a fresh injury during his recovery from a previous thigh issue, raising concerns he could be sidelined for the remainder of the season and potentially even longer.

The Ghanaian international was initially expected to return to action in April after picking up a thigh injury in early January. However, his latest setback, sustained in training, has left Tottenham with more questions than answers regarding his return to full fitness.

Kudus’ journey back to full fitness has been far from smooth. After his thigh injury in January during Tottenham’s 1-1 draw with Sunderland, the club and fans were hopeful that he would be back by the start of April.

At the time, former Spurs manager Thomas Frank, who was dismissed in February, provided a grim assessment of the situation, noting that Kudus had suffered a “bigger one to the tendon and quad,” which was expected to keep him out for a few months.

However, as the weeks passed, the return date was continuously pushed back. Kudus, a £55 million signing from West Ham in the summer, was eager to make his comeback following his injury but with his latest setback, Tottenham’s hopes of a quick recovery have been dashed.

In an official statement, Tottenham Hotspur confirmed the rumours surrounding Kudus’ injury, with the club revealing that the winger has suffered a significant setback. The statement read, “We can confirm that Mohammed Kudus has suffered a setback in his return from injury.”

The club clarified that Kudus had recently “returned to team training“, with a potential return to full fitness on the horizon. However, following this latest issue, the club stated that he would require “further specialist review and, potentially, surgery.”

This raises serious doubts about the timeline for his recovery and whether he will play again this season. Spurs have not provided further details, but have assured fans that “further updates will be provided” in due course. In a show of support, they added, “We are all with him (Kudus) in this difficult time.”

What Does This Mean for the Black Stars?

Kudus’ injury comes as a significant blow not only to Tottenham but also to Ghana’s national team. The attacking midfielder has been a key figure for the Black Stars, especially after his performances during the last FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Despite Ghana’s early exit from the tournament in the group stage, Kudus was the standout player, scoring two goals in three matches, more than any other Ghanaian player at the tournament.

His creative spark in the final third and his ability to carry the ball and shoot from distance made him one of the most dangerous players in Ghana’s squad. Now, with Kudus’ participation in the upcoming World Cup in doubt, the Black Stars may struggle to replace his creativity.

Ghana’s World Cup campaign is set to begin with a crucial match against Panama, followed by tough fixtures against one time World champion, England and 2018 finalist, Croatia. Potentially without Kudus, Ghana will need to rely on other players to step up and fill the void left by one of their best players.

De Zerbi’s Challenge Without Kudus

The timing of Kudus’ latest injury is especially unfortunate for Tottenham’s new manager, Roberto De Zerbi, who was hoping to have the Ghanaian return in time for his first game in charge of Spurs.

De Zerbi will take charge of his first match this weekend as Tottenham travels to Sunderland, the opponents of Kudus’ original injury. With Kudus unavailable, De Zerbi will have to find new ways to revitalize Spurs’ attack, which has struggled in his absence.

Since the 25-year-old was sidelined in January, Spurs have had a dismal run of form. The team has won just once in their last 11 Premier League games, suffering eight defeats and three draws. One of the most humiliating results came in a 3-0 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest in their last league outing.

The club is currently in a precarious position, sitting 17th in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone. The lack of attacking threat has been a significant issue for Spurs, who have struggled to create chances and break down defenses in Kudus’ absence.

With his dribbling ability, and vision, Kudus was expected to play a central role in Tottenham’s attacking play, making his injury all the more costly.

A Season in Limbo

Also, the new injury blow to Kudus leaves Tottenham and Ghana in limbo, with both teams facing an uncertain future without one of their key players.

For Spurs, this is just the latest chapter in a season filled with frustration, inconsistency, and missed opportunities.

For the Black Stars, the absence of their creative maestro could spell disaster as they prepare for their World Cup campaign.

As fans anxiously await further updates from Tottenham, it’s clear that Kudus’ road to recovery will be a long one. Whether he returns to action this season or is forced to undergo surgery remains to be seen, but for now, both Spurs and Ghana must navigate their respective challenges without one of their most talented players.
