Ghanaian travel vlogger Wode Maya, whose real name is Berthold Kobby Winkler Ackon, experienced one of the most memorable days of his career on Monday, April 20, 2026. His YouTube channel officially crossed the 2 million subscribers mark, a major achievement for any African content creator while he and his filming crew were involved in a minor car accident in Lusaka, Zambia.

The incident occurred as the team shot content for an ongoing documentary-style series showcasing Zambia’s beauty, culture, and hidden gems.

Wode Maya, known for his high-energy vlogs that challenge negative stereotypes about the continent, took to FacebookLive shortly after the event to share the news with fans.

Holding up a visibly damaged camera, he described the day as unforgettable.“We had an accident today in Zambia,” he said during the live session.

The accident was minor, with no serious injuries reported to Wode Maya or any member of his crew. However, the impact caused significant damage to their filming equipment, including cameras essential for his high-quality documentary work.

Production on the current Zambia series has been temporarily paused as he arranges replacements.

In a follow-up post on X (formerly Twitter), Wode Maya reassured fans, “Had an accident while shooting in Lusaka yesterday but it’s all good!” The upbeat tone reflected his characteristic resilience, a trait fans have come to admire throughout his travels across Africa.

Wode Maya’s journey to 2 million subscribers has been nothing short of inspirational. Starting as an aeronautical engineer with a passion for storytelling, he built his brand by traveling the continent and highlighting positive African narratives.

For now, the content creator is safe, his team is intact, and his channel stands stronger than ever at over 2 million subscribers. Supporters eagerly await the next chapter of his Zambian series and whatever adventures lie ahead.
