Fanaka International University College (FIUC), in partnership with the Ghana Scholarships Authority (GSA), has announced a major scholarship initiative aimed at expanding access to tertiary education for Ghanaian students pursuing careers in procurement, logistics, and supply chain management.

Under the arrangement, sixty qualified Ghanaian students admitted to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Procurement, Logistics and Supply Chain Management at Fanaka International University College for the 2026 academic intake will receive full tuition sponsorship for their first year of study.

The initiative, which is being administered through the Ghana Scholarships Authority, forms part of broader efforts to equip Ghanaian youth with critical technical and managerial skills needed to support the country’s economic growth, industrialisation agenda, and expanding trade sector.

The scholarship programme comes at a time when access to tertiary education remains a major concern for many families due to rising educational costs and increasing demand for employable skills in specialised sectors of the economy.

Scholarship Targets Critical Skills

According to details released by the institutions, the sponsorship programme specifically focuses on Procurement, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, an area increasingly regarded as central to modern business operations, manufacturing, transportation, trade facilitation, and public sector management.

Officials say the initiative aligns with the Ghana Scholarships Authority’s broader objective of improving access to higher education while supporting national development priorities.

Under the scheme, all admitted and eligible applicants will enjoy tuition-free studies for their entire first academic year, with opportunities to subsequently apply for additional local sponsorship support from the Ghana Scholarships Authority when future scholarship portals are opened.

The continuation of sponsorship support beyond the first year will, however, remain subject to the applicable terms, conditions, and eligibility requirements of the Authority. The partnership has been widely viewed as part of ongoing attempts to reduce financial barriers that prevent many qualified Ghanaian students from pursuing tertiary education.

Eligibility Requirements Announced

The institutions indicated that the programme is open to applicants holding qualifications such as SSCE, WASSCE, GCE Advanced Level, and Advanced Business Certificate Examination (ABCE) certificates, provided they meet the stated academic requirements.

Applicants with SSCE or WASSCE qualifications are expected to possess credit passes in six subjects made up of three core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, alongside three elective subjects. Candidates applying with GCE Advanced Level qualifications must also obtain passes in three subjects, with at least one Grade D or better, in addition to five Ordinary Level credit passes including English Language, Mathematics, and a Science subject.

Similarly, applicants with ABCE qualifications are required to hold a full diploma and credit passes in five subjects including English and Mathematics.Officials explained that the admission standards are intended to ensure that successful applicants possess the foundational academic background necessary to excel in higher education and the specialised field of supply chain management.

Fanaka International University College, located in Accra, describes itself as a technology-driven institution focused on practical education, entrepreneurship, leadership, and career-oriented training.

Programme Focuses on Industry Skills

Information published on the university’s academic portal indicates that the Bachelor of Science programme in Procurement, Logistics and Supply Chain Management is a four-year degree designed to equip students with practical and theoretical knowledge in procurement systems, transportation management, inventory control, international trade, operations management, logistics, and supply chain strategy.

The curriculum includes courses such as Introduction to Procurement Management, Transportation Planning, Operations Management, Strategic Supply Chain Management, Public Procurement Law, Risk Management, and Humanitarian Logistics. The programme also integrates industrial attachment opportunities intended to provide students with hands-on industry experience before graduation.

University officials say graduates of the programme are expected to be prepared for careers in manufacturing, retail, public procurement, warehousing, transportation, import and export management, and international trade operations.

Education Access Remains Key Priority

The scholarship initiative also reflects growing collaboration between tertiary institutions and government agencies to increase educational opportunities for young people while addressing Ghana’s evolving workforce needs. The Ghana Scholarships Authority, which operates under the Office of the President, has in recent years expanded both local and international scholarship opportunities for Ghanaian students pursuing tertiary education.

Observers believe programmes targeting specialised sectors such as logistics and supply chain management are increasingly important as Ghana positions itself as a regional trade and logistics hub under initiatives such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Officials behind the partnership say empowering students with technical and managerial skills in procurement and logistics will contribute significantly to Ghana’s economic competitiveness, efficiency in public and private sector operations, and overall industrial development.

The institutions have therefore encouraged qualified applicants nationwide to seize the opportunity and pursue careers in sectors expected to play major roles in Ghana’s future economic transformation.
