The Minister of Transport, Honourable Joseph Nikpe Bukari has highlighted the rollout of Ghana’s Electronic Visa Service as a landmark step in the country’s digital transformation and border management agenda. He stated that the initiative forms part of a coordinated national effort to modernise transport systems while strengthening security and improving service delivery.
Honourable Bukari explained that the launch of the E-visa system was achieved under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, who directed ministries to align digital platforms with border control systems. From his view, the reform represents a fulfilment of strategic directives aimed at improving national mobility and security coordination.

The Minister of Transport indicated that the system builds on earlier investments in the Advanced Passenger Information and Passenger Name Record systems at the Accra International Airport. The Saboba MP noted that these earlier frameworks created the foundation for a more integrated and intelligent border environment.
The politician further stressed that the E-visa service is designed to complement existing aviation security infrastructure across entry points. According to him, the integration enhances pre-arrival screening and strengthens cooperation among security agencies.
He emphasised that Ghana’s approach aligns with global best practices in migration and aviation governance. The Parliamentarian added that the system supports the country’s vision of open yet secure borders within Africa’s broader integration agenda.
Honourable Bukari described the initiative as a practical response to long standing challenges in travel processing and border coordination. He argued that digital transformation remains central to improving efficiency and reducing administrative delays.
The politician said the system would improve predictability for travellers while reinforcing national security controls. He added that confidence in border management systems remains essential for international mobility and economic activity.
He further noted that the initiative demonstrates a commitment to innovation and improved governance outcomes. From his view, the reforms reflect a long term strategy to position Ghana as a leader in digital border administration.
“Today’s launch, therefore, is not only a fulfillment of the visionary directives but also a clear testament of His Excellency’s unwavering commitment to innovation, digital transformation, national security, and improved service delivery for citizens and visitors alike.”

Integrated Border Systems Strengthen National Security Framework
The Minister of Transport, Honourable Joseph Nikpe Bukari outlined how Ghana’s electronic visa system will operate alongside advanced passenger data platforms to reinforce border security. Officials indicated that the integration is designed to enhance real time monitoring and improve screening processes at all entry points.
Honourable Bukari explained that global experience shows that effective border management relies on the use of interconnected digital systems. From his view, the combination of data driven tools enables authorities to detect risks before travellers arrive in the country while improving coordination across agencies.

“While the E-visa serves as a digital travel authorization document, the Advanced Passenger Information and Passenger Name Record systems transmit passenger information directly to border control agencies for real-time security vetting and pre-travel screening. Today, these systems will significantly enhance capacity to strengthen our border security whilst facilitating travels, especially within the framework of visa exempt regimes.”

The Parliamentarian added that the integration strengthens Ghana’s capacity to manage both security and travel facilitation. According to him, the system ensures that border agencies operate with accurate and timely information while reducing delays at entry points.
He further explained that the E-visa serves as a digital travel authorisation tool while passenger data systems provide continuous screening support. The Saboba MP indicated that this dual structure enhances both security oversight and operational efficiency.
Honourable Bukari emphasised that the combined systems will improve coordination among immigration and aviation agencies. The politician stated that seamless data exchange will support smoother processing at ports of entry.
The politician stated that the reforms will also support visa exempt arrangements across regional travel frameworks. From his view, this will contribute to smoother movement of people while maintaining strict security oversight.
He highlighted that the system allows authorities to verify passenger details before arrival in the country. The Parliamentarian noted that this reduces congestion and improves the overall experience for travellers.
Honourable Bukari expressed appreciation to all ministries, consultants and technical partners involved in the project. He stated that their collective effort ensured the successful deployment of the integrated border platform.
He concluded that the initiative is a long term investment in Ghana’s transport and security infrastructure. The politician added that continued digital expansion will strengthen the country’s position in global mobility systems.
