The NPP National Organiser and Former Member of Parliament for Tema East Constituency, Nii Kwartei Titus Glover has called on the government to suspend the renewal of licences granted to some South African companies operating in Ghana. He argued that stronger economic pressure would compel authorities in South Africa to respond decisively to attacks and intimidation targeting foreign nationals, including Ghanaians.
Honourable Glover indicated that Ghana could no longer remain silent while reports of hostility against Africans continue to emerge in parts of South Africa. In his estimation, economic measures would signal Ghana’s commitment to protecting its citizens and defending African solidarity.

The former MP further disclosed that he was prepared to organise a month-long public protest to intensify pressure on the South African authorities. He explained that the planned demonstration would draw attention to the concerns of Ghanaians and other Africans living in the country.
“The licence of that South African company should never be renewed. I will organise a one-month demonstration and carry placards to the Presidency. They are not feeling the impact of the punitive measures enough.”

The politician stressed that businesses connected to South African interests should face restrictions until conditions improved for foreign nationals. He believed such measures would compel authorities to address concerns surrounding the treatment of migrants and legal residents.
He also expressed concern over reports that some individuals with valid residency documents were allegedly facing cancellations and harassment. From his perspective, the situation raises serious questions about fairness and the protection of lawful residents.
According to the NPP National Organiser, Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Ministry needed to adopt a firmer diplomatic response on the matter. He stated that the concerns raised by the Minority deserved urgent attention because the welfare of citizens abroad remained a national responsibility.
The politician further urged the African Union to consider sanctions against South Africa if attacks on Africans persisted. He contended that continental institutions must defend the principles of African unity through decisive action against member states that failed to uphold them.
In a related argument, Honourable Glover proposed restrictions on South Africa’s participation in selected continental activities. He suggested that sporting events and international conferences could become part of coordinated pressure aimed at encouraging policy reforms.

The former MP also reflected on the support many African countries offered during South Africa’s liberation struggle. He noted that the solidarity shown during the apartheid era should continue to inspire mutual respect and cooperation among African states.
Shifting his attention to regional integration, the NPP National Organiser acknowledged the importance of African cooperation in strengthening trade and investment. He explained that the African Continental Free Trade Area was established to help countries benefit from shared markets, skills and economic opportunities.
He, however, observed that xenophobic incidents threaten the vision of the continental integration promoted by African leaders over the years. In his view, attacks against fellow Africans does not promote confidence in partnerships.
Calls Grow For Urgent Evacuation Of Ghanaians Abroad
The NPP National Organiser and Former Member of Parliament for Tema East Constituency, Nii Kwartei Titus Glover urged the Foreign Affairs Ministry and Ghana’s diplomatic missions in South Africa to intensify efforts to locate and evacuate stranded Ghanaians. He explained that citizens facing fear and uncertainty require immediate support from the state.

According to him, government officials should extend their operations beyond major cities such as Pretoria and Johannesburg. He noted that many affected individuals live in smaller communities where access to assistance and security remained difficult.
“Your citizens are your citizens wherever they are. America will never leave their people in danger anywhere in the world. Even when they are dead, they carry them home.”

Honourable Glover suggested that national security resources could be used to facilitate evacuation and transportation for vulnerable Ghanaians. He argued that emergency intervention remains necessary whenever the lives of citizens abroad were under threat.

The former MP further appealed to Ghana’s High Commission in South Africa to identify citizens trapped in isolated areas and support them with transport and registration. He explained that some individuals are unable to move freely because of fears surrounding their safety.
From his standpoint, diplomatic missions should maintain regular engagement with Ghanaian communities during periods of crisis. He stated that consistent communication would help authorities respond quickly to the concerns of affected citizens.
The politician also advocated for increased opportunities for Ghanaian businesses in sectors currently dominated by foreign companies. He suggested that local investors could be encouraged to expand their operations in strategic industries within the country.
“They should find a Ghanaian and give it to him. Our people can also invest and mine those resources here. Those South Africans should go.”

In addition, the NPP National Organiser observed that countries earned international respect when they consistently defended the welfare of their nationals.
