Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has described President Bola Tinubu’s approval of two major federal road projects in the South-East as a historic development, stating that the initiatives represent the Federal Government’s deliberate effort to rebuild infrastructure and address long-standing challenges in the region.
The Governor stated that the approval of the design and procurement processes for the Otuocha-Anam-Abaji Road, which connects Anambra State to Kogi State, and the Oba-Nnewi-Uga-Ihube Road, which connects Anambra and Imo states to the Enugu-Port Harcourt Motorway, demonstrates a renewed commitment to improving regional connectivity and economic growth.
In a statement, Soludo expressed full support for the projects, describing them as part of an extraordinary infrastructure change in the South-East.
The Anambra Governor claimed that upgraded road networks are critical to unlocking the region’s economic potential, which has long been hampered by weak transport infrastructure.
After decades of neglect, he indicated that the most recent federal clearances showed that the Tinubu administration was addressing the infrastructural requirements of the South-East.
“I can’t contain my joy and that of my people regarding the great news from DIKESIMBA Anambra; DIKESIMBA NDIGBO, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
Prof. Chukwuma Soludo
He added, “Certainly, President Tinubu has a date with history, and even more so with the South-East. He continues to demonstrate his avowed commitment to orchestrating the reconstruction of the South-East, thereby finally healing the wounds of the Civil War.”
Soludo’s statements are consistent with existing debates in Nigeria over the necessity of balanced infrastructure development throughout the nation’s geopolitical zones. Despite being one of Nigeria’s main commercial hubs, the South-East has regularly voiced complaints about insufficient federal infrastructure investment, especially in road networks connecting agricultural and industrial communities.
It is anticipated that the recently authorised projects will improve access to important economic corridors and fortify regional transportation connections.
In particular, the Oba–Nnewi–Uga–Ihube Road is anticipated to improve communication between Anambra’s industrial districts and nearby Imo State while offering a direct path to the Enugu–Port Harcourt Motorway.
Additionally, the Otuocha–Anam–Abaji Road will serve as a crucial conduit between the states of Anambra and Kogi, which could enhance travel and commerce between the South-East and other regions of Nigeria.
According to Soludo, the initiatives are a part of a larger infrastructure agenda that will change the region’s economic environment.
He claims that a number of “unprecedented, foundational infrastructural rebirths” are already taking place, and the most recent approvals further demonstrate the Federal Government’s dedication to regional renewal.
Soludo Hails Federal Support for Anambra Infrastructure Projects

In addition to commemorating the road approvals, Governor Soludo emphasised the significance of constructive engagement and political cooperation between state and federal authorities in carrying out development projects.
He disclosed that following his meeting with President Tinubu on July 1, David Umahi, the Minister of Works, asked for specifics regarding the road projects that were discussed.
“I met the President on Wednesday, July 1. The next day, the Honourable Minister for Works and Infrastructure, our own ever-productive and beloved Senator Dave Umahi, contacted me to send him the details of the roads we had repeatedly discussed,”
Prof. Chukwuma Soludo
The Governor described the roads as transformative, claiming they will considerably increase connection throughout the South-East, South-South, and North-Central areas.
“These two roads constitute critical game-changers for the South-East, South-South and North-Central. The man who tamed the Atlantic Ocean in Lagos is certainly redefining politics, and the South-East won’t be the same again.”
Prof. Chukwuma Soludo
According to Soludo, the development shows how cooperation across various governmental tiers can yield noticeable outcomes for the populace.
“For me personally, this is why politics makes sense to me: working collaboratively and building alliances to achieve concrete results that improve the lives of the people.”
Prof. Chukwuma Soludo
The Governor has frequently stressed the need of collaborations in achieving development objectives, contending that political disagreements shouldn’t stop governments from cooperating on initiatives that directly enhance the lives of individuals.
The most recent road approvals contribute to the larger infrastructure discussion surrounding the Tinubu administration, which has made economic infrastructure, transit projects, and significant road restoration top priorities as part of its growth agenda.
For communities across the South-East, where poor road conditions have affected commerce, travel and investment, the announcement has generated expectations that long-delayed infrastructure projects may finally receive attention.
Soludo concluded his remarks by expressing appreciation to the President and suggesting that the infrastructure initiatives could become part of Tinubu’s political legacy, stating, “Thank you, Asiwaju! History will be kind to you.”
The Governor’s support is indicative of the increasing political interaction between the federal government and state leaders about regional development priorities. It also highlights the strategic importance of infrastructure investment in addressing economic challenges and strengthening links between Nigeria’s regions.
